Liner Notes:

I wrote the first version of this two years ago. It started as a tale of a love that didn't endure, but I really wanted it to be about losing someone to dementia. So I've changed the p.o.v for one thing. The chorus is too much like another verse. I'm working on it.

Lyrics:

How Could They Have Known?

Verse 1
He bought a van in Amsterdam
And drove to Kathmandu
Smoked some dope, made some friends
Met his soul mate, too

Verse 2
They settled down in some small town
Had everything they’d dreamed
Each other’s love, a happy home
The perfect life it seemed

Chorus:
When they fell in love that summer
And swore they’d never part
How could they have known then
That he would break her heart?

Verse 3
A sense of dread entered his head
Dementia’s cold caress
One moment there were two of them
Then there was one less

Verse 4
His memory had left the room
His soul mate had gone, too
He can’t recall today at all
But still sees Kathmandu

Chorus:
When they fell in love that summer
And swore they’d never part
How could they have known then
That he would break her heart?

Really good complete lyric, just waiting to be sung. Great flow and cadence. I will have a go at this one if you like, I'm back in my studio tomorrow.
