We need to have a conversation about politics
Post date:

Demo:
Liner Notes:
This is a very very late skirmish entry- the prompt was 'conversation'. I of course started thinking about political ones, and this seemed to write itself- tho it was the day after the skirmish, so, as i said, a very late entry.
Live guitar and vocal, then a harmonica overdub.
Lyrics:
We need to have a conversation about politics
Everyone says avoid it, but this needs to be fixed
I can’t have a relative of mine make a choice so wrong
Yes this is going to get ugly, yes it might take long
The rest of the family’s quiet, with maybe a wink or a shrug
So much easier to sweep this stuff, down under the rug
Prior elections were as divisive this time I’m going to insist
Doing all I can to stop you voting for a fascist
This says something about you
I’m Trying to say it with love
But where the hell is your empathy
all I see is a lack thereof
This might not end well I’m giving it the college try
Lots of people around us are going to ask why
Maybe I’ve just got a sense although I’m not certain
That beneath your right-wing bullshit, there might be a good person
Maybe years from now when I’m gone, you’ll remember this
I saw something going on that I tried to fix
So go ahead for now call me sanctimonious and woke
I care enough to make sure you don’t vote for a joke
We need to have a conversation about politics
Everyone says avoid it, but this needs to be fixed
I can’t have a relative of mine make a choice so wrong
Yes this is going to get ugly, yes it might take long

I admire your semi spoken vocal delivery, that's difficult to do and you succeed. The guitar and harmonica are excellent. The story you tell in the lyrics is very relatable and honest. These are really difficult times indeed and you have expressed the problem well. PS yes, the harmonica is excellent.
This works so well with the spoken/sung lyrics. Love the sentiment and the lyrics are packed with meaning. The harmonica is awesome!
Groovy protest vibe to this one - power in your vocal, and that jangly insistent groove. And real blues harmonica - wish I could do that! Rock on, and fight on!
I know this has been on your mind - glad you wrote something about it! And yes, it's hard to communicate but the intention is loving. The song's got a lot of good energy musically too.
This is a great take on the skirmish and is a very timely conversation to have! I totally agree with your point of view.. avoiding difficult conversations is not the answer... honest and authentic conversations are needed as is respect for diverse opinions.
You've captured what (I hope) so very many of us are feeling. Your lyrics, and delivery, are vehement, without being preachy and antagonistic.
Excellent protest song. Very well delivered, which drives home the message.
hahah this is great! I mostly gave up 4 years ago....and if anyone STILL thinks there's a side to anything and even any kind of choice to make........well they have my pity as they're probably the same people that always tout about why the Germans didn't do anything and just "let it happen", but ugh..............I commend you, good luck!
especially dig the lack thereof empathy bit, some people just don't have it, never will........and won't get into the massive differences in sympathy and empathy
great tune!
I think many of us can empathise with this. Luckily, not me actually, but plenty of people i know are plagued by this issue.
Nice work putting it down in a song.
