Skirmish song that kind of flowed out by itself - I think my head has a dedicated super-efficient skirmish compartment now!

Lyrics:

One day we took a walk beyond the small talk
where you say how's it going
and I say I'm doing fine
One day I closed my eyes and took a deep breath
and I dived into your subtext
and I let you into mine

And there beyond the norms of conversation
is where I stopped being afraid
There beyond the niceties and conventions
I let you see of what I'm made

It turns out I'm allowed to have desires
and you can say you're nervous
and we both will understand
It turns out our best bet was never guesswork
we found beneath the surface
more adventures than we planned

And there beyond the norms of conversation
is where I stopped being afraid
There beyond the niceties and conventions
I let you see of what I'm made

They taught us not to say what we are feeling
keep our soft spots well-protected
wear the armour, build the wall
They taught us it was wrong to be so open
but, my love, how can I catch you
if I can't see where you'll fall?

And here beyond the norms of conversation
is where I stopped being afraid
Here beyond the niceties and conventions
I let you see of what I'm made

This is lovely! Your voice reminded me of Joni Mitchell in her "Ladies of the Canyon" days, but entirely original as well.

Fantastic. The lyrics are so revealing and expressive. Great performance. That chorus is like the melting of two hearts to become one... lovely

These lyrics really touch me... this speaks to the beauty of a trusting and true loving relationship. I love the chorus. And those verses reach deep into my heart and thoughts. Your music is absolutely beautiful. This is such a treasure!

The lift in the chorus(es) is beautiful. Very intelligent, incisive lyrics. That skirmish compartment is working very very well! Smile

A beautiful song, I live the contrast with the chords you chose in your chorus. Nice finger-style playing and beautiful singing. An insightful lyric that I relate to a lot - as an introvert it takes me awhile to open up to new acquaintances.

Gorgeous lyrics. Diving into your subtext. What a great idea. Love the idea behind the song. Sung with delicate beauty. Nice skirmish.

I love the idea of a skirmish compartment in the mind - I think I have one, too!
A lovely, timeless folk quality to this one - voice and guitar are delightfully haunting. And lyrics that are both vulnerable and courageous. Great song!
