10 Short Poems
Post date:
Demo:
Liner Notes:
I did an online songwriting course last week on Zoom. It was very good, one of the activities was to write short verses. I haven’t written anything as a poem for years and found it very interesting. I thought this would fit for the 10x10 challenge and so I wrote some more.
Lyrics:
FREE AGAIN
Lockdown has,
unlocked a door
In the cell I had made for myself
Using words for iron bars
WHEN YOU LIE
When you lie to me
You throw a blanket over me
I can’t see and I get tangled up
Bu when you tell me the truth
A breeze blows over my face
BRING AN UMBRELLA
Bring an umbrella
They told Gene Kelly
You’ll be
Singin’ in the Rain
TWO JOBS
Holding down the fort
Holding back the tears
My two jobs
Since you left
NOT THIS TIME
The sea was warm
We sank down
We touched the sand
Not this time we said
HAIKU OF REGRET
The butterfly came
I did a very wrong thing
The butterfly left
FIVE MEET - IT’S MORE THAN A METER
One, two, three, four, five
Iambic meter
Is hard to begin
Then it’s hard to stop
Thinking, talking fives
SWIMMING IN SUMMER
When you swim in the river in summer
Always check that the alligator isn’t swimming there too
THIS POEM’S GONE VIRAL
Inside your mouth or up your nose
No one knows where the virus goes
That’s why I write in upper case
REMEMBER DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE
ONLY DEEPER
Do I love you
As much as I used to?
I do, I do, I do
Only deeper
Please keep your comments respectful, honest, and constructive. Please focus on the song and not the demo.

Love your haiku of regret-- i'm kind of dealing with that now, or fearing i will be, so that speaks most strongly to me, but I enjoyed the whole set of poems and the pillow of gentle background notes.
Wow, this is a fantastic 10x10! You manage to get a lot of emotion into such short poems. Very well done.
That gentle background music... I love a good poetry reading and this was a good poetry reading.
This is brilliant. It would make a perfect mimeographed Zine. I liked Two Jobs best.
This is absolutely gorgeous... your poetry, phrasing, and pacing is so beautiful - I LOVE your vocals. I would listen to you read a volume of poetry! The subtle and sparse piano is perfect. I also loved the way you end it!
