Demo:

Liner Notes:

This was written for a challenge a friend of mine was running to write a song about the end of summer.

I had a few ideas, most were a good riddance to summer but then went a little more introspective, again this is me working out some stuff.

On this track:
Vocals
Ukulele
Bass (Fender Strat Squire pitched shifted down an octave)
Midi Kick
Midi Hi Hat
Midi Ride
Midi Violin

I tried to add some liver percussion but it wasn't working so I went with the midi stuff.

Lyrics:

Verse: am F
Chorus: C G

Verse
Summer's come and gone
Sunshine and love songs
Are replaced by crisp fall air
Leaves that drop without a care

Chorus
You can't go back
Don't bother trying
Say goodbye
No use in trying
Don't hold on
To the past
The best things in life
Never seem to last

Verse
Long warm days replaced with cold
A stark reminder you're growing old
Where has the time gone?
How does it keep marching on?

Chorus
You can't go back
Don't bother trying
Say goodbye
No use in trying
Don't hold on
To the past
The best things in life
Never seem to last

Verse
You hope for just one more day
Of blue skies instead of gray
The warm sun on your skin
Instead of the cold world you're living in

Chorus
You can't go back
Don't bother trying
Say goodbye
No use in trying
Don't hold on
To the past
The best things in life
Never seem to last

Wow, that lyric just hit me right on target today. Most of the time I don't think too much about aging but today it's been on my mind an awful lot and as it happens this song crystalises all those thoughts very well. Big emotions here right now - which means you did a great job. There's something a bit Neko about your voice on this, which I like, and I love the plaintive violin countermelody too.

very pretty and autumnal..the end of summer is not so bad. then the cold hits.

Beautiful vocals to match the sultry, melancholy feel of summer ending, although, for me, I’ve never liked summer but, then, I’ve mostly lived in warm/hot climates. I’m celebrating when summer is over - I love Fall!

Yes the change of season! Is it an end or a beginning ! Very nice song.

Beautifully crafted lyrics that capture the end of summer brilliantly and may also capture the end of warmth and beauty of love. With the music and the last few lines of each verse it almost feel more like the end of a loving relationship disguised as an end of summer song.. perhaps that is me projecting things I have felt before. In any event I love how this song conjures up so much. The full orchestral feel adds to the the depth and emotion of the lyric brilliantly.

There's a moving emotional tone to this with the instruments you chose and the vocal delivery as the lyric tells a reflective story. Easy to relate to the wonder of time and the seasons and how it all affects us. Perspective is everything.

Really good lyrics - like kahlo I felt that the choruses transformed the end of summer in the verses into a metaphor for an ending relationship. Songs mean whatever the listener decides, right? Smile Well sung and enough of an arrangement to fill out the soundstage without crowding the all important vocal and lyrics.

This is all really working great for me.........great lyric, even though I'm about like sbs2018 I'm usually celebrating the end of summer, until it gets cold, and start feeling all those aches that really shouldn't be there yet and do feel older than my years.

but yeah these lyrics can take on any meaning you want to put to them.......really amazing write! that chorus is killer
delivery and guitar excellent as always, that violin really sets this off for me, and the sparse drums really working, even though midi, lets the real humanization shine through, and doesn't muddy up some really poignant and beautiful lyrics, Great stuff!
