Teach Me How to Speak (I Think Differently)

Liner Notes:

This song is about being on the autism spectrum. I've hinted at social awkwardness (a trait in this) in some of my songs, but this is the first time I've actually touched on this in a song.
The demo was recorded on my Android phone. I played my Yamaha PSR EW400.

The song falls under the "Week 8: Communication Medium" prompt, because eye contact is a form of communication. It's an autism characteristic to not be good at eye contact.

Lyrics:

Let me tell you my inmost secrets
The reality is that I think differently
No good trying to hide your feelings
I can see that you're different from me

I just envy your ability
To carry a conversation
Teach me how to speak

I'm not exactly one to socialise
I'm standing in the corner
There's a vacant look in my eyes
In the crowd I'm like a foreigner

When I converse with others
The road abruptly stops
Got nothing left to talk about
I wish I could hang out and about
To behave just like you

I'm on the outside, looking inside
Don't fret if I don't look you in the eye
What can I say to keep the ball rolling?

My interests linger on specific topics
I like to play games and do music
Anyone would go insane, but I wouldn't mind
Talking about the one band all the time
We just vibe and roll with it

I don't want to make you feel weird
Do my intentions, do they
Do they get lost in the translation?

Please don't shun me out
Don't perceive me as an outsider
I'm not like everybody else
But I shouldn't be viewed any lesser

Now you've heard my inmost secrets
The reality is that I think differently
No good trying to hide your feelings
I can see that you're different from me

I'm unique in my own way
I've nothing more to say
Teach me how to speak

I love the honesty in your lyric, and the emotion in your playing and singing. A well-done recording, strong and clear. The "stop" moment is very effective.

fine character portrait of the outsider, pertinent to the situation of anyone who is outsde the mainstream, sometimes looking in and sometimes looking out. the passion in your performance tells us just as much as your lyrics.

Love the chord progression of the piano and I rarely notice chord progressions. Interesting song idea delivered well.
