God, this was fun.

Lyrics:

I got bricks
I got mortar
I got water
I got the foreman's daughter
and I'm gonna
build a toll booth
and charge you
for this rock and roll

Cos rock and roll ain't free
that's not the way it should be
yes, it's for you and me
but I need the money

Drop the coin in the basket (drop it!)
go one and do it (do it!)
cos it's the rock and roll
tollbooth

I lift my guitar for you
when you
pay the toll
it's required - you know
so come on and let me go
rock and roll

Cos rock and roll ain't free
that's not the way it should be
yes, it's for you and me
but I need the money

Drop the coin in the basket (drop it!)
go one and do it (do it!)
cos it's the rock and roll
tollbooth

Hey, if it's a way of monetising what we do in a world that believes that music isn't worth a tinker's cuss, have at it!

And the title prompted my mind to head off at a tangent (as usual) and I ended up reminiscing about a favourite book from my childhood, Norton Juster's "The Phantom Tollbooth" (they made a movie of it with Butch Patrick as Milo, back in the day) and I'm delighted to report that Norton is still going strong at the grand old age of 91. A phantom rock and roll tollbooth, now that's the sort of thing Kiss would have made a TV movie about...

Those high tinkly guitars are gorgeous; the shouted "Do it!" gives this a slightly more aggressive vibe than I've heard from you before. I like the result.

A wonky happy rock n roll tune you got here.
Yeah, it sounds like you had fun with this one.
I like the acoustic guitar breaks.
Great job!
(No personal stories this time cos I have absolutely no experiences with toll booths)

I love the quirky, gritty feel to this song. The chorus is really catchy. I love the arrangement, the instrumentation is spot on and sets up a nice place for your vocals to sit. That acoustic guitar solo is tight! Really nice tune!
