Liner Notes:

This song was started back on 5/29 and I just came across the bits and pieces. I fit them all together and finished it up. A song about Bonnie and Clyde. (Henry mentioned in the third verse is Henry Methvin and this takes place just before the final showdown.) Ignore the dog(s) barking in the background. Apparently we have a loose dog in the neighborhood and Dutch thinks it's totally unfair that another dog gets to run free when he's trapped in the house.

Lyrics:

Been driving all night long
Trying to make it home
With shotgun shells and bandages
And cash from the savings and loan

I can see the start of dawn
As we drive on without sleep
Tired of looking over my shoulder
For the promise some bullet will keep

I just want to go home
I'm tired of being on the run
We harvest the fields we've sown
Living life behind a gun
The papers say we always get away
They never know our next move
I'm tired of looking out the rear view

Trying to get to Texas
But the road is blocked ahead
We'll head on down to Louisiana
And meet up with Henry instead

I just want to go home
I'm tired of being on the run
We harvest the fields we've sown
Living life behind a gun
The papers say we always get away
They never know our next move
I'm tired of looking out the rear view

Love this. Classic narrative folk--strong melody and lyric that needs no extra bells and whistles to shine. A pleasure to listen to!

I just realized that you do a lot of storytelling with your songs. Way more than other 5090ers. I'm always just reading your lyrics as the music plays and I don't really have much to say. I just enjoy the story as it unfolds and how you paint the emotions of these characters. It's a really cool way of doing the music. Like taking characters from movies and inspecting what's going on inside them.

Same thing here. I just enjoy it like a little tv show episode or something. Short film. Captivating.
