Liner Notes:

The guitar arrangement started as the torch song I have been trying to write since the beginning but always escapes me.

Then I saw @crisp1's lyrics and realized it was perfect. The music was finished, the lyrics were there, so here it is.

Doug: Something similar yet different happened in FAWM 2019 when theresaj heard an instrumental by guatecoop then read a lyric of mine and realized they would work together -- so she came up with the top line melody and put it all together and it worked out great. This is also really cool, a laid back sound that still conveys the passion in the words. Thanks, Justin!

Lyrics:

V1
I’ve been dreaming at night
The world is fading
Animals dying
Plants decaying
The only way to survive
Is to prove you’ve kept your love alive

C
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooooh ooh ooh
If we were the last two people on earth
I would find the last rose for you
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooooh ooh ooh
I would find the last rose for you

V2
As the walls tumble down
And cities crumble
Survivors are roaming
The concrete jungle
They’re looking for how to show
There’s still room for their sweet love to grow

C
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooooh ooh ooh
If we were the last two people on earth
I would find the last rose for you
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooooh ooh ooh
I would find the last rose for you

B
I always wake up before the dream is over
And reach out to make sure you’re there
I hope you feel how deep my love is
I’ll do anything for you, I swear

C
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooooh ooh ooh
If we were the last two people on earth
I would find the last rose for you
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooooh ooh ooh
I would find the last rose for you

Fascinating to read how you created this song. Very beautiful collaboration. The lyrics, music, playing and singing all came together as if they were written in the same room. Beautiful song, very, very beautiful song! Truly special. Love it. Such a gorgeous, warm atmosphere, makes me want to smile. Very loving, kind, beautiful song! Did I say beautiful? I can't stop saying it. Because it is!

If we were the last two people on earth
I would find the last rose for you that is a terrific couplet and says it all.
the laid back, paul simon sort of jazziness softens the sadness of he lyric, glazing it with a romantic ambiance..

Love the bossa nova feel with that music. The crooning is absolutely beautiful. Great collaboration!!!

Doug's lyrics are great as usual. This arrangement is warm and jazzy with a slight hint of edge, which fits the dystopian theme well. Just floats along like a dream.

This is so well structured and performed...gentle but powerful...what a wonderful meeting of musical minds...and I loved the Nun Such Band pic!

I haven't listened yet. It's an interesting twist on a love song, this post-apocalyptic dream. When you find that rose, are you going to take care of the plant or simply cut the last rose from the dying bush? Smile

I can see why you were drawn to these words for this song. It's a sweet tune, for sure. The slightly off-kilter perspective of the words stops the music from moving in a cloying direction. Ultimately it all sounds sweet and sincere

You need to do a "Last Rose Revisited" about the desecration of our national "Rose Garden" over the weekend. Smile

Wow, this is just gorgeous! I'm trying to identify some of the background arrangement--sounds like a sung "ooh" (?) or a synth (?) or just some reverby tone from your guitar? (Vocal,methinks--and it is SUCH an addition to this song. My favorite element!)

Great job!
