Liner Notes:

Today at 11:11 AM an 11 year old girl who was shot in the head as a victim of a drive by shooting in Madison that occurred on Aug 11 was removed for life support in the community of those who loved her. Gun violence has escalated in Milwaukee and Madison Wisconsin over this year and the number of innocent children impacted by this is staggering. The number of children impacted by adverse living conditions due to poverty, war, political injustice, hunger, etc. globally is appalling.

I began writing these lyrics at 11:11 this morning during a national conference call I was on on caring and character.

Lyrics:

a beautiful reality

V1
where is
the space
for wonder
in their eyes?

where is
the room
for belief
in their souls?

where is
the depth
for passion
in their hearts?

when our children
are living
day to day
in survival mode

PC1
they will never see
each day’s beauty

C
pastel ribbons of sky
reflections on horizons
the day draws to a close
children still lie crying
and darkness sets in
as more nightmares begin

V2
we must
make space
for wonder
in their eyes

we must
make room
for belief
in their souls

we must
make depth
for passion
in their hearts

for children
to be thriving
day to day
we are responsible

PC2
let’s help them see
each day’s beauty

C
pastel ribbons of sky
reflections on horizons
the day draws to a close
children still lie crying
and the darkness sets in
as nightmares begin

B
the violence and wars
the hate and poverty
the sadness and thorns
need to be removed
by you and me

PC3
let’s help build them
a beautiful reality

C
pastel ribbons of sky
reflections on horizons
the day draws to a close
children still lie crying
and the darkness sets in
as nightmares begin

So sad to hear this. Far too many children die by gun violence. We need songs like this. Maybe someday it will change and it can't be soon enough.

Sad lyric inspired by a heartbreaking event. It is nice to have the somewhat hopeful tone that there is something we can all do. I wish I knew what it was though!
