Liner Notes:

Salty John was gracious enough to allow me some leeway with his lyric, "Angola Prison Dream."

Rough demo. Needs a good bass line to set it off, but we're going comando these days.

Lyrics:

Louisiana Dawn

Verse 1

I see a crimson sun rise
  through the morning mist
Swirling over cane fields,
the ones where we first kissed
I hold you in my arms once more
This Louisiana dawn

Verse 2

The jailer’s baton on the bars
  breaks my sweet recall
Yells at us to move ourselves,
we’ve got some dirt to haul
It’s  bitter-sweet coming on
This Louisanna dawn

Chorus:

I was fleeing through a cotton field
With a posse after me
Then I found a boxcar
I rode till I was free
But now I wake and find it’s just
An Angola prison dream

Angola prison dream
This Louisiana dawn

Bridge:

They’ll send me to the Red Hat if they catch me on the run
Let Gruesome Gertie fry me or maybe use a gun

Verse 3

Digging in the levee
from can’t see to can’t see
Doin’ three to thirty inna
Penitincery
Makes me wish I’d never seen
This Louisiana dawn

Chorus:

I was fleeing through a cotton field
With a posse after me
Then I found a boxcar
And rode til I was free
But now I wake and find it’s just
An Angola prison dream

Angola prison dream
This Louisiana dawn

Excellent groove! Nice guitar work and vocals! Catchy refrains in the verses and chorus. Great collab!

My first thought was it reminds me of John Fogerty and that is meant as a big compliment! Great collab...classic!

Fantastic lyric by Salty John and a superb rendering into song by Mr. 9th Street. This would be a huge crowd pleaser live, I bet.

Oh, wow! This is GREAT!! Love the lyrics and the "vibe" is perfect for it--definitely some Fogerty influence there. Nice vocals!

Really, you guys have outdone yourselves on this!

Great lyrics but missing the demo and after above comments I really would love to hear it! Let me know when you repost the demo!

Really cool, great blues song, with a really good droove behind it. Nice work.

Dang, this is a sweet bluesy rocker! It's almost like John Fogerty in the flesh here. I love the way the words tumble out. It's a great word picture: red hat, gruesome Gertie! Yikes! Great tune
