Lydia (You're Not Ready)

Liner Notes:

This song is for my friend Lydia. We met through online uni, and we bonded because we're on the autism spectrum, we love the Beatles, and we sing and play piano/guitar, among other things. She is in the 3rd year Bachelor of Music whilst I'm in in 2nd year.
Before we met, she wasn't looking for a relationship, but when she found me her feelings changed. She had never dated a guy before; her past relationships had been with girls. Our communication was largely over the Internet.
Lydia was my girlfriend at one point; on our first date she gave me my first kiss. However, she had to end the relationship because her anxiety was getting bad (she was worried about COVID-19, uni and family issues). At this point, we are still friends.

The song uses the Lydian mode. The demo was recorded on my Android phone.
The line "Don't be like Melody and slam the door" is a reference to my earlier 50/90 song "Slam the Door".

Lyrics:

It started out as nothing
Then you appeared to me one day
You relate well to the stories I tell
And appreciate what I have to say

We were lovers for one day
I thought love was here to stay
As the night fell, we kissed
Little did I know it'd come to this

We fell in love, but you're not ready
Right now times are getting too heavy
We don't know if we can make it to the end
Now you say you just want to be friends

If I can't have you now, I'll wait
At the moment, we need time and space
The world is in a state of confusion
I don't want to fall victim to an illusion

This lockdown brought us together
At the same time it drove us apart
You say you never meant to lead me on
Were you playing games with my heart?

We fell in love, but you're not ready
Right now times are getting too heavy
We don't know if we can make it to the end
Now you say you just want to be friends

There's no one else like you
Few people see the world like we do
I don't want to be with anyone else
I just want to be with you

I've never had feelings like this before
Don't be like Melody and slam the door
Oh Lydia, won't you come back to me?
Girl, your loving is what I need

Very moving song, the piano is beautiful and your vocals showcase your emotions very well.

Beautiful piano intro. Really good longing for love story, I like how personal your lyric is.

A very clever (and sweet) idea to use the Lydian scale, but I would not have noticed had you not pointed it out - this is just a well composed piece. I like the contrast of the gentle higher-octave piano when it kicks in. This is a complex and bittersweet situation, running hot and cold, angry and reflective, and the composition captures all of this perfectly. I do feel for you.
