Liner Notes:

We've been hosting a quiet independent write-along for some friends on Zoom all week (this is the week we would have been at the Rocky Mountain Song School, so we've been trying to recreate some of that magic online). Ethan's been bringing prompts for everyone each day, and it's been delightful. Last night, one of our friends challenged us to try collaborating on something today - we've been together for almost a decade (and just got married a couple of weeks ago), but we've hardly ever collaborated on songs. The ensuing prompt from that conversation was "Why'd You Have to Say That?" We rose to the challenge this morning and cowrote this silliness. Enjoy!

Lyrics:

"Did you take your meds?" I ask you every day
Have you been outside; have you been sleeping okay?
Is coffee all you've had to drink today?
Why'd you have to ask me what my therapist would say?

It seems that you've been feeling anxious, am I right?
Do you feel able to set your work aside at night?
Can you really fix this, or is it a pointless fight?
Why'd you have to ask me what my therapist would say?

We have been together long enough to see
How each other acts in the lows and through anxiety
You know I know better; you know who I want to be
[[Sigh]]

Why?
Why?
[[Sigh]]
Why'd you have to ask me what my therapist would say?

This is really wonderfully cheeky and feels honestly insightful. The delivery is perfect! I love how you ended it.

this us funny but also hits home, especially in these times when everybody is going a little nutty.

I enjoyed this.......great collab Smile The undercurrents of genuine care and understanding in the lyrics not from someone you paid to pretend care and understand I especially enjoyed, and I'm going to interpret it that way ....... Biggrin

harmonies sound good, you guys should do more.......especially if your therapist advises against it Wink

Came here for the title, stayed for the savvy lyrics and the laconic delivery. Extra bonus points for those wonderfully dramatic sighs. Very silly but also very sweet!
