Liner Notes:

Day before yesterday it rained, and I did indeed buy a bottle of wine (see lyrics). Wrote this pandemic-inspired lyric today, and set it to some somewhat bluesy music in the key of E, which meant that a harmonica in the key of A would be used in there (cross-harp style) sooner or later.

Another quick iPhone recording , using music memos, imported into garageband for the iPhone (where i did the overdub of harmonica, the rest is live), and then put into my audacity program on my pc for a little eq and cleaning up. the alternate title i have for this is 'Looks like rain so I bought a bottle of wine'-- hmm, is that a better title?

Lyrics:

Looks like rain so I bought a bottle of wine
My schedule’s shattered, no more daily grind
Not that it was so bad, before, but still

This is the year everything is on hold
Restaurants vanish businesses get sold
Fate is a trickster, showing up like an overdue bill

The future is increasingly mysterious
Its all gotten so damn serious
Less glorious and more hideous
Was I sleeping or just delirious
Save us from all- encroaching weariness
At least after this
You can’t say we lack experience

The sun peeked thru but I don’t want to ask
How soon will we not have to wear a mask
Next year at this time, will we be celebrating or not

It’s a slippery slope, nothing’s easily predicted
Do we want truth or fantasy? Either way we’re addicted
The whole thing’s not pretty, but its all we’ve got

The future is increasingly mysterious
Its all gotten so damn serious
Less glorious and more hideous
Was I sleeping or just delirious?
Save us from all- encroaching weariness
At least after this
You can’t say we lack experience

Cool descending chord progression. This is a song we can all relate to. And I like the very expressive harmonica as well!

Damn, you've packed a lot of truths in this lyric! Sure missing FAWMStock this year! I sure hope next time this year we can listen to your tune and say... phew, glad that's over with!" lol Favorite line "Fate is a trickster, showing up like an overdue bill." @the3queens and I are keeping Amazon and other companies in business. We're trying to keep the economy afloat! Biggrin I'm guessing we all are doing the same things by the sound of the 50/90 tunes this year lol Awesome timely song!

Nice Dylanesque vibe.
Circumstances are nicely summed up wrapped into some pleasing chord changes.
Makes it easier to swallow.

@writeandwrong..I am right there with you ordering online. So wish we could have had another FAWMstock

some parts of the melody remind me of dylans carribean wind, which helps make it one of my favorite songs of yours. some interestng chord choices as well and the lyrics are some of your best.

Great lyrics, and I especially love all the rhymes in the chorus. The chord progression in the chorus adds to the sense of uncertainty that the lyrics encompass. That harmonica really adds to the bluesiness. Very nice.

Tremendous lyric, Mike. A lot of memorable lines enumerating those bitter truths. Music is a real pleasure. The harmonica - as always - adds a magic touch.
Good work. Smile

Really lovely lyrics.
Super nice chord progression.
I'm getting a strong Neil Young vibe here, which is a definite positive.
Great harp work, too.

So many things to like about this one. I especially love the chord movement, and the personal life details mixed with philosophical musings.
