Liner Notes:

Okay so I'm kind of proud of how clever I was with this one. I was struggling with the fire challenge for week 4 but then I was given another challenge by a friend of mine who runs a song writing challenge which was to write a song from the perspective of a character in a movie or that could be sung by the character or played over a montage and it hit me!

"Let the Right One In"! I'm going to spoil a plot point in the movie by telling you what the song is about so skip this if you don't want to know.

The song is about a man who is caring for a vampire child but he no longer can so his has to kill himself to keep her from being found out, to assure he won't be found out he lights himself on fire. Dude pours gas on himself and lights a match, it's one of the most bad ass and disturbing deaths I've ever seen in a horror movie.

On this song:
Vocals
Strummed acoustic
Picked acoustic
Bass (fender strat pitch shifted down an octave)
Shaker
Midi kick
Midi harmonica

Lyrics:

Verse: C G
Chorus: am F dm

Verse:
We both know
What I must do
I can no longer
Take care of you
We had a long run
You and me against the world
Put a darkness
Has been unfurled

Chorus:
Strike a match
And say goodbye
No use for tears
Dry those eyes
Dry those eyes

Verse:
We both know
It would come to this
We were doomed
From our first kiss
Such fools
Thinking we could escape our fate
But the time we had
Sure was great

Chorus:
Strike a match
And say goodbye
No use for tears
Dry those eyes
Dry those eyes

Instrumental

Chorus:
Strike a match
And say goodbye
No use for tears
Dry those eyes
Dry those eyes

You really caught the feel of the movie in ths song. this also reminds me of the movie, The Living Dead Girl.

That is a killer chorus - figuratively and literally! Really awesome song combining the 2 challenges! Your music and vocals are fantastic on this. The plot and that movie scene are horrifying and it is cool how in the song you set the stage for an empathetic response from the listener rather than build upon the horror. Excellent!

Reading the backstory is so interesting and this song is really quite universal. I enjoyed the contrast between the concise lines and heavy theme/message. The vocal has a certain sadness to it with a longing too. I like the idea of that challenge to write from a perspective of a character in a movie. Good song.

Loved the movie! The short lines here are very effective, and the chorus really sticks in the head. That harmonica adds a nice nostalgic feel! Lovely vocals and atmosphere of edgy melancholy.

I don't know this movie, but that's definitely a strong choice in terms of a climactic moment to write about. I love the music of this song and the simplicity of the lyrics, and I like that the tone is poignant, and the sadness of the death and lost relationship is what you chose to focus on as opposed to the horror aspect (though, again, don't know the movie, so maybe that's from it too).
