Moonlight Through The Blinds

Liner Notes:

Well, when I take my cowboy boots off there's nothing I enjoy more than putting on the tux, stepping up to the microphone and crooning to the ladies at the back of the lounge until closing time.

(In my dreams).

Seriously, though, I do like jazz a lot and try and I put a few up every 50/90.

I hope you enjoy this Covid-Is-Driving-Me-Crazy-inspired one.

Lyrics:

MOONLIGHT THROUGH THE BLINDS

Words & Music
By
Jerry Pettit

I've been thinking 'bout my childhood,
How I loved to go and play.
My friends would always join me
At the park, we'd stay all day.
Even when we were some older,
Put away the childish things,
We would still spend time together
For the joy that friendship brings.

CHORUS:
I keep waking up at 2am,
Alone here in my bed.
Spend hours tracing patterns
In the ceiling overhead.
How much longer must I suffer
In this room where I'm confined,
With nothing here to look at
But MOONLIGHT THROUGH THE BLINDS?

Then we'd find a special someone,
All too often too soon gone.
Still the moments shared together
Proved we knew how to belong.
If we're lucky we had children,
Watched the cycle run again.
Hoped our children learned that lesson
How important are our friends.

CHORUS:
I keep waking up at 2am,
Alone here in my bed.
Spend hours tracing patterns
In the ceiling overhead.
How much longer must I suffer
In this room where I'm confined,
With nothing here to look at
But MOONLIGHT THROUGH THE BLINDS?

TRUMPET SOLO

Then our children grow and leave us,
And have children of their own.
And our friendships can start fading,
We're increasingly alone.
Then we only have our memories,
Of the park on sunny days.
How our friends were so important,
Now we're in a different place.

CHORUS:
I keep waking up at 2am,
Alone here in my bed.
Spend hours tracing patterns
In the ceiling overhead.
How much longer must I suffer
In this room where I'm confined,
With nothing here to look at
But MOONLIGHT THROUGH THE BLINDS?

Jazz, Jazz more Jazz! I swear I'm in a jazzy bar with you crooning with finesse. That trumpet! I love it!

How often do you wake up at 2 am with random women in your bed, Jerry? No, don't answer. Love the jazz accompaniment, and the lonely feel of the chorus works beautifully. The switch between nostalgia and now in the lyrics works well. Sounds really good.

Ooh..he's a jazz man, he's a bad man, he's a real man...oooh jazz daddy! Great lyrics from you, as always, Jerry! <3

Amazing how you can flip the switch from Country to Jazz like that. Well done! Can’t wait to hear your EDM tracks.

is the title a takeoff on 'moonlight through the pines" from georgia on my mind? i think the lyrics would b relevant to many of us evein if the coronaviruses were not raging through the land.

Good voice! Nice middle of the night vibe to the lyrics. Is this like band in a box or something? How are you making these?

Jerry Pettit's picture

Yes, I use Band In A Box on pretty much everything. Great program!

Good job, you did well to keep me to the end on a genre i still struggle with. Yup for a guy who goes from death metal to Chopin i struggle with Some Jazz. Great vocal performance. Nice.
