Slam the Door

Liner Notes:

This song follows on from my earlier songs "Lost in a Dream" and "Melody". Unlike those songs though, this one is angry.

I was infatuated with a girl from the Certificate IV music class at VU last year, but I had found out from my friends that she was very unreliable. At times, she was not a pleasant person to be around; she was always posting material about SJWs on Facebook. For her uni ensemble, she barely turned up to rehearsals at all and eventually just left the course altogether.
My friend at one point asked "Do you ever start liking a girl with a screwed-up personality or crazy politics, and you know you're asking for trouble but you just can't resist pursuing them?" I said "That is me in spades".

Later, I found out that she had taken a pause from music and instead she was studying business. I felt disappointed that I wouldn't be doing music with her anytime soon.

The electric guitar was recorded on Audacity using my Steinberg interface, and the vocals were done on my Android phone. Both were treated with distortion.

Lyrics:

I made the mistake of falling for you
When I knew you were with someone new
While I was in love with the idea of you
My friends said my thoughts were untrue

You faded out from the crowd
When we all depended on you
Then I realised you were unreliable
And my hopes were not viable

[ch]
How could you walk out and slam the door?
You clearly didn't give a shit
Instead of coming into my world
You just stepped out of it

You're not a bad person, but you're toxic
Holding in your problems, without a fix
You're a vampire of my free time
No, I don't intend to be unkind

Your views are aggressive, your mind's a mess
No restrictions, no more and no less
Some told me you had an unidentifiable smell
It seems things weren't going down so well

[ch]
How could you walk out and slam the door?
You clearly didn't give a shit
Instead of coming into my world
You just stepped out of it

Now it seems you've left it all behind
You say you've got little motivation
Oh, my thoughts left me blind
And totally broke my concentration

Thoughts of you would pervade my head
But everyone told me to move on instead
Though you stole my heart, that's in the past
It's high time that I stopped kissing your ass

[ch]
How could you walk out and slam the door?
You clearly didn't give a shit
Instead of coming into my world
You just stepped out of it

I feel I know just who she is. Great and powerful song!

The vocal distortion effect is cool, and possibly amplifies the anger in the lyric. A powerful emotional lyric that I very much relate to, it's confusing to fall for someone who's not really available.

The roughness and distortion are a perfect fit for rough and distorted feelings. Quite an epic tale, and you tell it well. And the voice of experience rings through, with some challenging lines like 'you're not a bad person, but you're toxic' - brave, and actually quite magnanimous in its harshness.
