Liner Notes:

Zanzibar, exotic, a fusion of Africa and the Middle East. A brief encounter under an African sky.

Lyrics:

Zanzibar

V1
On a moonlit beach in Zanzibar
Strumming my old guitar
Our eyes met across a driftwood fire
A smouldering desire

V2
Beside the fire’s dying embers
That's where we surrendered
Maybe too soon and maybe too far
But let’s blame Zanzibar

Chorus:
African rhythms, eastern spices
Hot sultry nights, a million stars
Exotic dishes, papaya slices
That’s the magic of, Zanzibar

V3
I wonder now if she remembers
That night beside the embers
Of a driftwood fire under the stars
One night in Zanzibar

Chorus:
African rhythms, eastern spices
Hot sultry nights, a million stars
Exotic dishes, papaya slices
That’s the magic of, Zanzibar

Very cool storytelling. You can picture it in your mind.

Imagery is always great in a song but flavor? This is a song you can taste! Now you're showing off!

I kid, this is fabulous. Great write.

Wonderful images (and flavors)! I like how you go from smoldering in 1st verse to embers in the 2nd verse. Another good one!

I love how this is a song for the senses. Blame Zanzibar all you want - it's always been a far-off place of romance and intrigue for me, too, even if I've never got to visit. And of all the place names in the entire world, I don't think there's one finer. Those two "Z"s are really going to make a fine hook. (Oh, and one of my favourite SF novels is John Brunner's "Stand On Zanzibar", by the way.)
