Liner Notes:

I was moved by these words from Cindy and so I came up with a piano based piece for them...I hope it does her lyric justice.

Lyrics:

On the outside it was picture perfect
On the outside it looked just fine
But on the inside it was anything but
Unless she always stayed in line

There was a tear in the image
As she tore herself away
She was tired of a fantasy
She was tired of shadow play

On the outside it was like a snapshot
On the outside they all smiled
But on the inside she walked on eggshells
She was treated as a child

There was a tear in the image
As she tore herself away
She was tired of a fantasy
She was tired of shadow play

On the outside nobody would know
On the outside it looked good
But on the inside she lived it
Everything was a falsehood

There was a tear in the image
As she tore herself away
She was tired of a fantasy
She was tired of shadow play

One night she slipped out of the shadows
Looking forward to better tomorrows

There was a tear in the image
As she tore herself away
She was tired of a fantasy
She was tired of shadow play
So tired of shadow play

This floored me! You captured so well what I was trying to day. Goosebumps. Thank you!

Another nice collaboration from you two! Great job. I always love a waltz (or was this 6/8 time?). Nice little harmony in the chorus there. Lovely!

Cheers Jerry...yep waltz time and your comment is much appreciated!

Lovely writing from Cindy on this. The recurring contrast between outside and inside in each verse sets up a tension that of course you just know is going to be resolved in the final verse. A wonderfully poignant story, too.

And that melody really fits the lyrics well. The production sounds simple, but I can hear a lot going on and there are some particularly lovely touches with the keys. I'm not entirely convinced by the canon arrangement in the bridge, but I think dropping the second line further back in the mix would help. Enjoyed this one a lot!

That is so nice of you to say and you might be right about the bridge...which I will bear in mind if we take it on from just a demo...

Wonderful collaboration! The music, warm lead vocal, and lovely harmonies really carry Cindy’s lyrics beautifully.

Good collaboration! I liked the lyrics when I first read them. The music matches it very well. I like the modulation and the rise in intensity towards the end. Really adds impact!

Great collab! So much better suited than my own musical take on these sensitive lyrics.
