Brussels and Paris
Post date:
Liner Notes:
So this is autobiographical - I visited many places in France, Belgium, Germany and the greater London area during the summer between high school and college. I was fiercely independent and was open to anything and everything - so amid the lovely memories and photographs I have of places I visited I also got into some bad situations... and those are the memories that often stay most vivid in our minds.
Lyrics:
Brussels and Paris
V1
outdoor cafes
expresso and wine
vast parks and ruins
warm sunshine
art museums
glimmers of light
street musicians
summer nights
stone bridges
endless river banks
making memories
on a few francs
C
I went to
Brussels and Paris
at seventeen
I went to
Brussels and Paris
for a change of scene...
and what a change it was..
what a change it was
when it forever changed me
V2
moonlit journeys
cobblestone streets
flirting in French
people to meet
different places
sleepless nights
hearts and clothes torn
struggles and fights
old cathedrals
gothic designs
lighting candles for
sin-filled hard times
C
I went to
Brussels and Paris
I was seventeen
I went to
Brussels and Paris
and what a change it was..
what a change it was
when it forever changed me
B
photographs still remind me
of the good times I had
but Kodachrome didn’t capture
vivid images I hold close
of those dangerous and bad
C
I went to
Brussels and Paris
I was seventeen
I went to
Brussels and Paris
and what a change it was..
what a change it was
when it forever changed me

Sounds like one interesting trip! You captured city perfectly.
Seems like you learnt a lot at a tender age of how life can be full of surprising experiences both good and bad and put here in such an eloquent way.
Such flavorful imagery, creates a great mood for the lyric. Really good chorus too. Reminds me of a Joni Mitchell-type vibe. I was in Paris last spring and this really took me back there - I was there when I was younger too and experienced some mischief as well!
that was like watching a slide show. such memorable images
Ah...I really like the quick-hitting series of images. To be in Paris...and young!! The "sin-filled hard times" line is a nice change of pace
yup done that few times - brought back memories nice lilt
This is good. I like the repetition of 'what a change it was' - wistful but strong at the same time. The 'dangerous and bad' line is very intruiguing! I have a few ideas for this and will do some music for it.
Love the images and flow, just the hint of danger. I've experienced the same, the wonder, charm and also the dark side of travel in Europe, and you're so right, it all stays with you especially the odd things that happen. Really well done.
