Liner Notes:

Another rapid write. Week 1 Challenge: Introduction

I hear it somewhat upbeat but tender/poignant at the same time.
Female vocals.

UPDATE 29.07: Making a few major tweaks already (new lines in the verses, plus a couple of lines in the chorus are different now from the song version).

Lyrics:

Not Even Close

V1
While everyone slept
I crept in my jammies
And stepped outside
…Sitting in wonder
I’d ponder the sky
Dazzled by stars
The how and the why
And I’d think to myself
Oh WOW! There must be hundreds
…Well, not even close

Chorus
Don’t know who I am
Just who I’ve been
Through a prism that shows
All I’ve done, all I’ve seen
...There will always be more
I still have worlds to explore

V2
While everyone talked
I fought for the silence
And sought the dark
…Sitting in wonder
I’d study the heart
Dazzled by love
Especially the start
And I’d think to myself
Oh WOW! It won’t be painful
…Well, not even close

Chorus
Don’t know who I am
Just who I’ve been
Through a prism that shows
All I’ve done, all I’ve seen
...There will always be more
I still have worlds to explore

Bridge
Only two questions concern me now
…Whether I’m a tumbleweed
Or an angel still on course
Whether I’m directionless
Or returning to the Source

Chorus
Don’t know who I am
Just who I’ve been
Through a prism that shows
All I’ve done, all I’ve seen
...There will always be more
I still have worlds to explore

Oh wow Donna!

I really like that "Through a prism that shows all I’ve done, all I’ve seen". It makes you think... what are we even.

And the questions in the bridge I ponder all the time. What a great song!

This is exceptional writing Donna! Clever and thought provoking!

Very cool concept. Love where you took the "not even close" verses to such wonderful vast topics we think we understand but really are not close at all.

Very nice. Maybe we're all just angels tumbling along with the wind under the stars, dazzled by love.

I love the two verses and how you've used the same framework to give us two different images. I think the first sets up the painful line in the second very well. And as mentioned, the bridge works marvelously.

these are the important questions and life is all about finding the answers to them, you do a fine job of laying it out.

I love this portrait, the curiosity, innocence, and vulnerability, along with the will and strength to persist. The bridge crystallizes that deep question so beautifully. Great song structure that helps deliver the story succinctly. Wonderful work.

Thoughtful lyrics. It's a compassionate view of how wrong we can be, but accepting of that in human way, and with an expectation of greater understanding down the road. Like it.

Hi Donna, Great lyrics. I would love to try and set them to music.

I really like that bridge Donna, it has something unusual about it. I too like the placement of the wow hook, where it is in the verse.

Very nice. I think many creative people get that amazing rush of adrenalin looking at life. You capture that innocent wondering well. Nice.
