Liner Notes:

The Bamboo Bar at Shawano lake was one of the local bars where they often served high schoolers (drinking age was 18 back then) so there was a range of people - old regulars in various stages of impairment who seemed to sit at the bar forever and young people who wanted to party and hook up - since Shawano Lake was a bit of a regional tourist location you could often hook up with people from surrounding towns on weekends and be whoever you wanted to be... this is my memory of the place... some of my old high school friends still hang out there... I think they have become the old regulars...

Green Bay was only about 30 miles away but to us was a big far away city.

Lyrics:

At The Bamboo

V1
there’s a jar of picked eggs on the counter
near some loud guys playing liars dice
there’s a drunk man yelling at the jukebox
saying things that aren’t very nice

women anxiously stand in line
outside a red door that says dames
as tables of people start cheering
as the Packers win a close game

C
it’s a Sunday afternoon
at the Bamboo Bar
on the sandy shore of Shawano Lake

it’s a Sunday afternoon
come on in as you are
to the tavern of love and heartaches

V2
there’s a sign for Tombstone pizzas
a small menu of burgers and fries
it seems crusty old ketchup bottles
don’t bother hungry drinking guys

an old man is flirting with girlfriends
flanking him on worn barstools
as a couple makes out heavy in a corner
and his ex sits crying like a fool

C
it’s a Sunday afternoon
at the Bamboo Bar
on the sandy shore of Shawano Lake

it’s a Sunday afternoon
come in as you are
to the tavern of love and heartaches

B
at the Bamboo I fell in love
with a boy all the way from Green Bay
at the Bamboo he proposed
but I knew I could never stay
in that small town on the shore of a lake

C
it’s a Sunday afternoon
at the Bamboo Bar
on the sandy shore of Shawano Lake

it’s a Sunday afternoon
come in as you are
to the tavern of love and heartaches

What a picture you paint. I feel as if I am right there! Reminds me of a place I used to go to called The Mule Lip. Great song!

Yeah That sounds like one of those iconic places that's always been there and always will be. Very good description. Really makes it come alive.

There's so many distinct details that really define this place. The line: to the tavern of love and heartaches is a great description that summarizes all those unfolding stories. So many stories all in one place. Yep. Some memories/experiences stay with us and sometimes it's a place that bring them flooding back. Great writing!
