Liner Notes:

Prompt: Play

I noticed several titles with the word ‘play’ in them and realized I must have missed a skirmish today - indeed I did. So here is my late entry.

Lyrics:

V1
I need nylon strings
or should wear finger cots
but neither of those things
are things that I’ve got

so lend me a shiny trombone
or a sweet xylophone
maybe a baritone
I’ll try anything
that does not
have strings

C
I can’t play anymore
my fingers are too sore
they are blistered
they are bloody
they are tender...
tender to the core

I can’t play..
no I can’t play
anymore

V2
I can’t shake it off
my fingers throb with pain
my guitar has red splatters
its strings are blood stained

so lend me a wood clarinet
or an old brass cornet
maybe some castanets
I’ll try anything
that does not
have strings

C
I can’t play anymore
my fingers are too sore
they are blistered
they are bloody
they are tender...
tender to the core

I can’t play..
no I can’t play
anymore

B
I know if I practiced more
I’d have tough callouses galore
but my guitar thinks it’s a bear
and hibernates almost all year

C
I can’t play anymore
my fingers are too sore
they are blistered
they are bloody
they are tender...
tender to the core

I can’t play..
no I can’t play
anymore

I know wayyy too many musician friends that have been in this pickle. Very clever writing once again. It's pleasing with just the right dash of wit. You still be da bomb!

The sore do her club. Yep. We've all been there. That's a clever way to write about it. I'll look forward to your trombone, clarinet, xylophone extravaganza!

Every instrument has its physical challenges although xylophone should be gentle enough. I can't get a sound out of a trombone. I have to draw blood from my right hand 'cause the left is all calloused over. Good write and take on the prompt.
