I told Larry Wheeler I'd saved some of his lyrics and would attempt to get back, and as could, -- musicate.

So, this one to make it work for me, had to be re-written here and there and felt like a "Lullaby" of all things, -- the "Saddle and Blanket". No pre-plannig there, for sure! I've never considered a lullaby, but there it is. So, it's actually not "acoustic" either, it's all electric, (Hamer P90 double cut gold top) with extra Chord hits, Finger pick and *Slide O M G! Slide... it's been a long time, so, that's debatable and with the Low String Action on the Hamer. But it fit, for me, imo.

I know it was making me want to fall asleep!

I just kept picturing an old trail tramp sitting alone at a campfire, exhausted, body banging hurting from the day and just singing him/her - self to sleep with his small acoustic. (I often wake up holding a guitar, and weird!, but upon waking, -- take up right where I left off playing... that, I've never understood.)

Anyway, as always, this is a rough framing, done essentially while I was writing and recording and etc. uber-dubbing-ing -- so refinement/a-good-redoing! can always be considered!

Lyrics:

Before the saddle and the blanket
In the west were mustangs free
Before the saddle and the blanket
Wild is how mustangs were made, and only always, meant to be

Broken promises and treaties...
Broke the spirit of horse and man
Before the saddle and the blanket
Rode the freedom among the mustang band

Don’t call them cayuse or broncos
Mustang’s the name by which they're known
Before the saddle and the blanket
Mustangs ran the range which was their home

No owners gave them freedom
To run like Sun filled Wind
There’s no reason in God’s creation
We can’t let ‘em run, let ‘em run, let 'em run free

Let'em run, let'em run free
Let'em run, let'em run free
Let'em run, let'em run free
Let'em run, let'em run free

Before the saddle and the blanket
Mustangs, like the wind were running free

Looking at the lyrics...wild horses...not sure I understand the promises and treaties but it sounds good. Mustang! Nice catchy chorus message about let em run. Great job on this Larry. I'm ready for the audio now...hold. guitar intro...vocals now...can clearly understand the lyrics...slide guitar...broken promises...treaties...soothing western sound. Great job on this both.
