Liner Notes:

I wrote this song during a skirmish at FAWMstock this summer to a prompt "Beware of the Hawk". I sat on it because it had lots of pauses and clocked in over five minutes. It was too stuck in my head to change, so I just need to move beyond it. There is a space in the last chorus where the music cuts out, that is because I played something badly and turned off the volume, don't know how else to fix it.

I wrote this to have a double meaning...the hawk or a girl both being stalked. Don't know if that comes over.

Lyrics:

Beware of the Hawk

Feathers the color of the sky
lie in a pile on the ground
So pretty, they caught his eye
his hunger made you earth bound

Taking off on your last flight
on a sunny, perfect day
The joy of flying so high
was yours, until you became his prey

Chorus
Beautiful Bluebird, sing your last song
Mother bird wasn't wrong
she said, fly high, be free
it wasn't all talk
when she said, oh bluebird
beware of the hawk

He saw your wings in the air
his killer instinct was set
You're alone and pretty, doesn't seem fair
you became his perfect get

Fight the fight but only one will win
then he'll eat until he's done
The circle of life will start again
bluebird's at home in the sun

Chorus
Beautiful Bluebird, sing your last song
Mother bird wasn't wrong
she said, fly high, be free
it wasn't all talk
when she said, oh bluebird
beware of the hawk

Bridge
You're free to fly, beyond the sky
you are more than a hawk's prize
No more watchful eyes
bluebird you're free to fly

Chorus
Beautiful Bluebird, sing your last song
Mother bird wasn't wrong
she said, fly high, be free
it wasn't all talk
when she said, oh bluebird
beware of the hawk

Really nice song. Great vocals. I really like the chorus – nice change on “it wasn’t all talk” - and the percussion and harmonies are really effective. The double meaning does come across. I’ve listened twice and I didn’t notice the space where the music cuts out in the last chorus so wherever it is, it sounds intentional to me!

One of your best girl! That chorus takes my breath. The double meaning and the change of it wasn't all talk. This is almost hypnotic in a way.
