Liner Notes:

This is a redo of my earlier song "Living Life on the Road." I took it to a workshop last Monday for feedback and the guys said (among other things) that
(1) it had too much scenery/ not enough relationship
(2) they liked the "hooky" chorus, but they wanted the ba da la da's broken up and the other lines not to be identical
(3) they wanted me to fade out on the ba da la da's
(4) they wanted the verses to set up the chorus
So I wrote all new verses...made it into a story about 2 people instead of just describing the scenery. Please tell me if it worked! I plan to take it back to the workshop for another critique next month.

Heading Down the Road
Susan Cantey © 2019

Left my man last Tuesday
I was on the run
Saw a stranger on the corner
Holding out his thumb

Stopped and rolled down my window
Guess I’d lost my head
He asked where I was going
Here’s what I said

Ba da la da ba da la da la da
Just, heading down the road
Ba da la da ba da la da la da
Heading down the road
Far as I can go

We talked about the weather
Talked about the times
He told me about his war wounds
I showed him mine

When we left Kentucky
He began to sing
And all the birds along the highway
And I joined in

Ba da la da ba da la da la da
Heading down the road
Ba da la da ba da la da la da
Heading down the road
Far as we can go

Instrumental Bridge

We turned west at Knoxville
As the day turned grey
Headed for the desert
Where it never rains

Starry nights with glaring eyes
Days of burning sand
I just kept on driving
He seemed to understand

Repeat Second Chorus

Ba da la da ba da la da la da…

Interesting mix. The opening sounds very Latin, was expecting Ricky Martin, then it moves into much more jazzy sounding! These cross genre songs are really interesting!
