In The Day

Liner Notes:

Had a recent reunion in my home town and saw old friends I hadn't seen in some time.

There are always those who were "much in favor" back in high school, and that ended up doing poorly later in life. Alcohol, drugs, mental illness, many reasons.

That inspired this song.

I hope you enjoy it.

IN THE DAY

Words & Music
By
Jerry Pettit

When my daddy'd gone and left us,
Guess that I was only eight.
I became the new man of the house,
And I'd overcompensate.
Like my daddy, started drinkin',
'Cuz I wasn't much for pain.
Man, I wish you'd known me IN THE DAY,
'Fore it all went down the drain.

CHORUS:
IN THE DAY there was such promise,
Maybe be an astronaut.
Had two parents who both loved me,
Before I was an afterthought.
IN THE DAY I was a happy child,
You'd always see me smile.
But nothing lasts forever,
Some things barely last a while.

Then I got a football injury,
I had taken quite a fall.
Man, I wish you'd seen me playing;
I could really run that ball.
But I got on medication;
Yeah, those pills they sure felt good.
Man, I wish you'd known me IN THE DAY
And had seen my childhood.
a
CHORUS:
IN THE DAY there was such promise,
Maybe be an astronaut.
Had two parents who both loved me,
Before I was an afterthought.
IN THE DAY I was a happy child,
You'd always see me smile.
But nothing lasts forever,
Some things barely last a while.

GUITAR SOLO

CHORUS:
IN THE DAY there was such promise,
Maybe be an astronaut.
Had two parents who both loved me,
Before I was an afterthought.
IN THE DAY I was a happy child,
You'd always see me smile.
But nothing lasts forever,
Some things barely last a while.

Love the smooth smooth sound of the instruments. Great lyric well delivered. A universal story! The guitar solo is a nice touch and the lyric video is super too. Give rose

Most of us can relate to this one! So much has happened to us, one way or another. Great choice of music. Yes, this one is a keeper!

this is a real story - its real country not country rock dross! its the stories that made country and this is a modern day story for so many . Nicely done - keeping real country alive Jerry
