Liner Notes:

For the third round of Random Collaborations from the forums, I was partnered with Liz, who, after sending her a little idea for a song that I didn't know had been set to music, we changed tack and Liz suggested one of two sets of Christmas song lyrics that she had written.

I liked both, so I have started on both, with very different musical approaches, but both started on keyboard. This one has a melody that I wrote on keyboard, but on this working out recording it just has the chords, with me trying to get the melody going.

The verse is basically just the C chord (I’m not sur whether to leave it that way, or do a C-F vamp), with a melody that utilises the notes E,G, and A (as a passing note). The chorus utilises the chords G and F, and the bridge uses the chords Em and Dm.

I've tried to make the chords and music easy to play for anyone, with the idea of children being able to play and sing along. I picture the eventual demo recording using xylophone, recorder, and other instruments of that kind.

NOTE - I didn't realise that Liz had posted up a vocal melody idea for the song before starting on this.

Lyrics:

There’s Christmas in the Air

V1
there’s snow
there’s ice
there’s gifts
that are nice

there’s trees
there’s lights
there’s stars
that are bright

C
there’s songs to sing
there’s cheer to bring
there’s Christmas in the air
there’s Christmas everywhere

V2
there’s hope
there’s thanks
there’s peace
that is great

there’s joy
there’s you
there’s love
that is true

C
there’s songs to sing
there’s cheer to bring
there’s Christmas in the air
there’s Christmas everywhere

B - (2 options could do either or both)

(secular bridge)
there’s time for friends and family
a time for giving gleefully
there’s time for laughing lovingly
a time for making merrily

(religious bridge)
there’s time for sharing spiritually
a time for hoping happily
there’s time for worshipping wondrously
a time for praising prayerfully

C
there’s songs to sing
there’s cheer to bring
there’s Christmas in the air
there’s Christmas everywhere

Please keep your comments respectful, honest, and constructive. Please focus on the song and not the demo.

Nice. I just enjoyed its simplicity and its gentleness, comments on the other one expand my thoughts.
