Liner Notes:

this is a lyric about a girl, and her Daddy
and some of the termoils of that relationship

Lyrics:

WHY CAN'T YOU JUST HOLD ME

you look at me like
with all that pitty in your eyes
where I used to be, the apple
so, your pretty ballerina's high

you talk to me like
you can't tell me what to do
you're not that perfect, Daddy
I didn't want to be like you

why can't you just hold me
and tell me how you're proud
say how much you love me
go on, say it once, out loud
I'm who I'm meant to be, Daddy
why can't you just hold me

gave me all the good things, Daddy
the trips, the shoes and clothes
when it came to your effections
you made me feel like I'm alone

I was once your little princess
I held your finger and I twirled
you chased away the monsters, Daddy
but I can't just stay a little girl

why can't you just hold me
and tell me how you're proud
say how much you love me
go on, say it once, out loud
I'm who I'm meant to be, Daddy
why can't you just hold me

I love you, but I'm going, Daddy
I'm all grown up, it's time to fly
watch me from your window, Daddy
just please try not to criticize

Wow. This reminds me so much of my relationship with my Dad. He so often found fault, though honestly I don't think he was aware of how much it upset me.
So powerful-so good!
