Lyrics:

Chorus:
Follow the drinking gourd, 2x
The old man is a waitin' to carry you home, 2x
Follow the drinking gourd. 2x

When the sun comes up and the first quail calls, follow the drinking gourd.
The old man is a waitin' to carry you home, 2x

Now the river bank..., makes a mighty good road, dead trees will show you the way.
Left foot, peg foot, travelin' on, follow the drinking gourd.

[Chorus]

Now the river ends between two hills, follow the drinking gourd.
There's another river on the other side, follow the drinking gourd.

The old man is a waitin' to carry you home, follow the drinking gourd.
Third sunset you'll be home, follow the drinking gourd, follow the drinking gourd

Follow the drinking gourd, 2x
The old man is a waitin' to carry you home, 2x

Well i never! I thought it was a drinking thing! Now i find its like our southern cross and a way to navigate. These old folk songs still have some mileage as you just proved!

This has a bluesy rock feel that I enjoy a lot, the vocal performance is quite good as the lyrics are quite enticing! Made me remember Dyonisus and maenads.

Cool - nice reinterpretation. Got a good American folk feel to it. Sounds like it should be sung around a campfire.

Very interesting, unique and unusual. Love your guitar work.

I love Follow the Drinking Gourd! I teach elementary music, and I used to do this when 5th grade covered pre civil war in the beginning of the year. I like your arrangement and the tweaks to the lyrics and form.
