Lyrics:

Immigrant Labor Song

V1
bussing tables
for a dime
cranking wrenches
on the line
sweeping sidewalks
to mark time

working hard
for a new life...
to change dark clouds
into sun...
sunshine

C
I’m a parent
I’m your neighbor
I pay taxes
do hands-on labor
I work for everything I need
I work for everything you want
and I’ll keep on working
as my knuckles bleed
as my knuckles bleed

V2
driving semis
night and day
scrubbing toilets
for small pay
weeding fields
in the rain

working hard
do as the say
to leave the past
embrace new..
new ways...

C
I’m a parent
I’m your neighbor
I pay taxes
do hands-on labor
I work for everything I need
I work for everything you want
and I’ll keep on working
as my knuckles bleed
as my knuckles bleed

B
some say that I don’t belong here
but I say they’ve got it wrong there
I’ve put in more hard time...
into jobs they say aren’t their kind
I’ve put more hours in...
than many standing here in the voting line
so don’t tell me
no don’t tell me
everything is fine

C
I’m a parent
I’m your neighbor
I pay taxes
do hands-on labor
I work for everything I need
I work for everything you want
and I’ll keep on working
as my knuckles bleed
as my knuckles bleed

Real talk. I know quite a few folks whose story is just like this song. Theirs is a story that continues to be told. Nice to know one of the storytellers is you.

This is so spot on. I just wish the other part of our population would understand this. GREAT write.

So real, so right! My sister owns her own landscape business and she said she has never seen workers work any harder than the immigrants. ( They are a big reason she is much more liberal now Lol

It's a good lyric; and I can relate with myself having a large family pool of legally immigrated folks who are exactly as you describe, and yet with more, -- all the costs and stresses of legal immigration (sadly, folks don't know this).

We have discussions that, -- even some of them have jobs that they don't understand why are not given to natural born unemployed for many years, Citizens. I explain, and tell them to just be very grateful for the blessings on them.
