Liner Notes:

I've had a hankering for a while to try and write a country song. This is my first effort. It's a rough first draft, needs a lot of tweaking, but I think it may have good bones...
I also want to add a bridge Smile And make it far less cliché. And add in better imagery...
I'll update the lyrics if I work on them Smile

Lyrics:

v1
The lights drift by the window of my beat up old blue truck
As I remember waiting in the dark of winter's gloom
Patiently for you
I'm trying to hold back the tears, hiding in my eyes
As I think about the memories that sadly are too few

Chorus
Whatever happened to our love
I never understood why we were through
Why now it's in my past
And why now I'm not with you
Why now it's in my past
And why now I'm not with you

v2
I can't forget the smell as fresh warm coffee that you loved
Drifts through the house and teases me with thoughts of calling you
Just to hear your voice
The pain of never hearing you, telling me we're true
Telling me I'm all you want I'm everything to you

Chorus
Whatever happened to our love
I never understood why we were through
Why now it's in my past
And why now I'm not with you
Why now it's in my past
And why now I'm not with you

This will make a really good country song. It has a lot of substance, which is great !

I like the big picture of loss and longing juxtaposed with the vivid little details like the smell of the coffee that become those triggers that painfully remind us of someone we miss. Nice sense of both scope and intimacy.
