Demo:

Liner Notes:

I had this chorus melody for a few days before starting to work on the song, which I wrote in my bedroom like a lot of my older stuff. I tried to go full Green Day with this one and I'm really happy with how heavy it turned out. Lyrically, it's about post-high school depression, specifically through remembering an old crush, and the last line connects to some of my older songs about that person ("Sweet Release" and "Detonate").

Lyrics:

Verse 1:
My life has been a rising action
But I don't know where it goes
The resolution's nowhere close

I think it's time I told you something
I'm not sure how you'll react
But I've been living in a flashback

Verse 2:
Last year was such a disappointment
I've gotta dig through the debris
And find out who I wanna be

But for now, I'll put on faces
Every conversation's an interview
Just one more motion to go through

Pre-Chorus:
Especially in winter, I tend to think about
The people that I used to know
Dance on the walls, cast shadows in the air
Your afterglow is my plateau

Chorus:
And I miss this, baby
And I miss this, baby
No matter where you are
No matter where you are

And I miss this, baby
And I miss this, baby
No matter where you are
No matter where you are

Verse 3:
Although my life was like a movie
I think subconsciously I knew
That someday soon I'd end up screwed

And I can't come back uninvited
I'd always find a new excuse
I'd give my life to dance with you

Pre-Chorus:
How many books have I written about you?
How many more do I have left?
We're so far apart, becoming memories
Eventually, we'll both forget

Chorus:
And I miss this, baby
And I miss this, baby
No matter where you are
No matter where you are

And I miss this, baby
And I miss this, baby
No matter where you are
No matter where you are

Outro:
The lobby was cold
I went upstairs alone

Yep - I can definitely hear your channeling Billy Joe Armstrong, sir. This is a nice rocker, I must say. High school was not so much angsy as it was just challenging. Nonetheless, you've got a strong demo here with some surprisingly smooth moments on the doubled voices. Well done, my man!

Oh yes, you definitely captured that Green Day spirit musically. There's a strong contrast between the angsty lyrics and the upbeat music. The chorus is catchy AF, got it stuck in my head now.

Post high school depression gets worse as the years, as the decades, fly by, ....and this song tells the story of its initial stages. i like the abrupt ending, cutting off the nightmarish reverie before it gets out of hand. the music is suitable teenage angsty, and the vocal effects on the pre chorus give the impressio of a dream breaking through

I love everything about this! The pickup in energy after the first verse is exciting, the guitar solo is fun, then the outro abruptly bringing about the end of the song is really striking and makes me want to listen to the song again and again. I also love both the melody and the dynamic vocal effects on the prechorus, the choices you made in that part all work especially well. I really enjoyed listening to this one - fantastic work!
