Liner Notes:

A little song about Tom Petty... I've been chatting about how I should use my new 12-string guitar so here is this. The second verse uses some of his song titles and the bridge is straight up stolen from one of his songs. (Quite possibly my favorite.)

Lyrics:

Tom Petty's been on my mind
The best damn writer you'll ever find
I think he had a lot left to say
Don't know why it turned out this way

I miss the soul in the way he'd sing
A simple honesty
There's a reason for everything
But it's lost on me

You know Tom, he wouldn't back down
Free fallin' all the way to the ground
I guess he felt like a refugee
He got lost runnin' down a dream

I miss the soul in the way he'd sing
A simple honesty
There's a reason for everything
But it's lost on me

Sometimes I'm happy
But sometimes I'm sad
Half of me is ocean
Half of me is sky

I miss the soul in the way he'd sing
A simple honesty
There's a reason for everything
But it's lost on me
But it's lost on me
But it's lost on me

That intro drew me in right away. This is a nice tribute, really catchy and bouncy. I really like the melody/performance of "there's a reason...but it's lost on me." Half ocean/half sky is a pretty great line, too. I really enjoyed this. You know, I saw a Tom Petty video just yesterday. I'd forgotten he was dead, so now he's had to die again in my mind

Great tribute to him. I think he would be impressed and honored. Did you know about the song I wrote after I dreamed when he died that he was in a raindrop or a teardrop?

Lovely tribute to an amazing musician by another amazing musician. Wonderful guitar solo. Great chorus, strong hook. Well placed references. Fantastic job, TC!

Hi TC, first, before I even start here I was thinking about writing a tribute song to Tom Petty a few days ago but I couldn't pull it off. Just wanted to say that.

Looking at the lyrics...yeah, the first verse is absolutely how I feel too. Such a shock that was and I was very surprised that media and this group didn't acknowledge the loss of one the greatest rock stars ever. Anyway, moving along. The next verse, he certainly is a loss to me too, sadly. Next section has a nice run of some of Tom's biggest hits...love it. Chorus again now. The next verse reminds me of into the great wide open. The last part, I just, I just, can't except that there has to be a reason. That said, I feel that way about others I've lost too. However, Tom Petty went before his time. Thanks for writing this TC. I'm ready for the audio now...hold. Nice guitar intro...sounds Tom Petty...vocals now...can clearly understand the lyrics...sounds country...I miss the soul in the way he'd sing...simple honesty...Tom would never back down...free falling all the way to the ground.....refugee....running down a dream....simple honesty.... there's a reason for everything but it;s lost on me....changeup bridge now....solo now...sounds great....I miss....in the way he'd sing...simplle honesty...it's lost on me...but it's lost on me. Very nice TC and thank you friend for making my day.

this is a wonderful tribute to Petty. I hear him in your music, but also hear you.

This evoked in me a similiar feeling that American Pie evokes, such sadness and longing. It did fill me with nostalgia and yearning. Great work! Ones that makes you feel
