Liner Notes:

This is based on a new real-life friendship that I have with someone I can kinda see right through and what they are thinking even though what they project to the world is a bit different.

The things she has shared to me, she can't believe she's opened up, but this song is kinda like a reflection of how she copes day to day.

An observation song if you will.

V1
Nobody knows
Can't tell a soul
That my kaleidoscope
Is falling apart
Must act like I'm okay
To keep them away
I can't smell the Hope
In the Dark

CH
Ohhhhh gotta keep pretending
Ohhhhh gotta keep pretending

V2
Behind the door
I fight a war
That no one can see
But me
Don't get too close
You might touch my ghosts
And see all my mistakes
On the floor

CH
Oh whoa gotta keep pretending
Oh whoa gotta keep pretending
Oh whoa gotta keep pretending
Oh whoa gotta keep pretending

V3
Ice in my lungs
Why does everyone
Want to be
Just like me
How soon they forget
No one gets wet
When swimming
In their misery

CH
Ohhhhh gotta keep pretending
Ohhhhh gotta keep pretending
Oh whoa gotta keep pretending
Oh whoa gotta keep pretending

Aging Ophelia's picture

This is a quick portrait, but I get it. Sometimes you just can't see that there even is a path out, much less an end to it.

The second half of the third verse in particular really hit home with me. Powerful writing.

Having been there myself, I totally get this. On bad days, a little company can work wonders; it's always good to talk.

This is tough cuz we all project personas. But projecting one so not to fall apart is horrible. Great lyrics
