Liner Notes:

This song was inspired by a Faceache group post by a gentleman called Michael Mollo, a composer. Something he said made me think of this title 'I Am The Turtle', and I wrote it down.

Tonight, months later, I was looking through my list of ideas (yes I keep a list of all my ideas), and found this title. This simply evolved naturally, it seemed, from there.

It's an allegory, and mostly autobiographical (I think).

Update Amanda says: sph is going to collab on this one for the random collab challenge Smile I can't wait Smile

Update 2019-09-13, Stephan says: here's my take on Amanda's lyrics. A bit old timey but fun.
Instruments: 2 guitars, bass, vocals and a bit of EZdrums

Amanda says: I love it !!! Thank you so much Stephan Smile

Lyrics:

Chorus:
Happy smile and happy heart
Around my isle I swim apart
In the wild and angry sea
Underneath a blue shade tree
One thing I know is I am me
I am the turtle

Verse 1:
In this fragile deep dark world
A rare and lovely creature
Lies and floats and paddles free
Serene in nature true
Enclosed in shell a person who
When touched will always bleed

Chorus:
Happy smile and happy heart
Around my isle I swim apart
In the wild and angry sea
Underneath a blue shade tree
One thing I know is I am me
I am the turtle

Verse 2:
A crocodile will sometimes pass
But guile will always win
And hide away to never see
The sea so full of sin
Then often on the very fringe
Is where you find carefree

Chorus:
Happy smile and happy heart
Around my isle I swim apart
In the wild and angry sea
Underneath a blue shade tree
One thing I know is I am me
I am the turtle

Bridge:
Hollow lives hide away
Disguise is seldom seen
But when you hear the hymn of the sea
You'll know the turtle has been

Chorus:
Happy smile and happy heart
Around my isle I swim apart
In the wild and angry sea
Underneath a blue shade tree
One thing I know is I am me
I am the turtle

This is wonderful! I love turtles and have written about them, but not like this. Please let me know if you get music for this!

This is very pretty and a good metaphor for how sometimes we feel we have to protect ourselves from the world to keep our inner treasures and truest nature.

Wonderful descriptions in this. I love the gracefulness of the turtle's actions and its representation in the "wild and angry sea". I like the strength of heart throughout and that it is unwavering.

Hi Amanda, my first thoughts when I read the title was "I Am The Walrus" by The Beatles. I read your liner notes...sounds good.

Looking at the lyrics...very nice opening Chorus...good rhymes and good storytelling. Verse 1 moves nicely with a kind of shocking last line when touched will always bleed. Verse 2 shows us the danger of being a turtle and points back to verse one about that last line...makes perfect sense. Love the bridge with the hymn of the sea line. The chorus is very strong and awesome. Great job on this Amanda.

May I take this lyric for the random collab? Right now I have a melody in my head - hope that I can remember it later Wink

So cool to hear this with music! Great, descriptive, clever lyrics come alive with upbeat music that depicts the spirit of the turtle & its metaphor so effortlessly and carefree. I enjoyed the spunky guitar and harmonies and how it all sounds together. Catchy! Great job!

Nice jolly tune. Like the descriptive lyrics. Some beautiful lines in there. Catchy beat that fits with the words. Nice collab.
