"I Love You," She Lied

Liner Notes:

This is going to end up being one of my personal favorites.

Hmmm...I can't really remember where the initial idea came from for this one--I think the phrase just popped into my head. I was watching the news at the time and moseyed over to my writing table and had it pretty much all written in 20 or 30 minutes.

There's something about a waltz...

Lyrics:

"I LOVE YOU," SHE LIED

"I LOVE YOU," SHE LIED
As she lay by my side,
But I'd heard when she cried
On the phone.
She thought I was asleep
When she got up to creep
'Cross the house, where she spoke
In hushed tones.

CHORUS:
Sometimes men are just slow,
Or we don't want to know,
Or we ain't learned to grow
Up inside.
Oh, but I nearly died
When I realized
When she said that
"I LOVE YOU," SHE LIED.

Truth is, this is the end,
Gonna lose my best friend,
And this song that I've penned
Breaks my heart.
Women sometimes move on
You don't know 'til they're gone
What you've lost, and now
You are torn apart.

CHORUS:
Sometimes men are just slow,
Or we don't want to know,
Or we ain't learned to grow
Up inside.
Oh, but I nearly died
When I realized
When she said that
"I LOVE YOU," SHE LIED.

GUITAR SOLO

There are lessons to learn
From the twists and the turns,
Or you're gonna get spurned
In the end.
Better find what it takes,
And stop making mistakes
Or it's going to
Happen again.

CHORUS:
Sometimes men are just slow,
Or we don't want to know,
Or we ain't learned to grow
Up inside.
Oh, but I nearly died
When I realized
When she said that
"I LOVE YOU," SHE LIED.

Interesting story told through powerful lyrics in a real cowboy type of delivery. Great waltz - love to dance it!

I love this song. It would have been perfect for final phase Elvis. The title is inspired, and the song tells it all. Lovely melody and your singing is terrific.

Oh man. You gotta feel bad for this guy. He got crushed and didn't even see it coming. Good story. Great hook. Very classic sounding country waltz.

Yes, I can see why this would be your favorite. It's that good! The lyrics have that nice "interplay" of structure and emotion, I mean, the lyrics are very well crafted, they have an immediate effect on listeners mind and heart. The music is lovely, chords and melodies just flow so naturally but it still sounds fresh and new at least to my ears. Can't imagine this was done so quickly. Was it Hank Williams who said that if you can't write a song in 20 minutes it's not worth writing. This song sure was worth writing! Smile

Looking at the lyrics...first, the hook, I love you, she lied is very strong. Kind of creepy walking around the house talking to herself. Very strong chorus and I can totally relate to this message. I screwed up a marriage...what can I say...I simply didn't listen. The very strong second verse and I saw that coming all the way...nicely written. Next verse offers pretty good advice about learning from your mistakes. Yeah, a very good write Jerry, well done. I guess this is going to be a waltz and that should be fun. I'm ready for the audio now...hold. nice waltz with guitar...vocals now...i love you she lied...can clearly understand the lyrics...chorus now....sounds great...I hear the steel guitar...good harmony vocals...when she says I love you she lies...very good vocals and melody. This could play on the radio...in a different time, sadly...but you never know. Strong chorus again...solo now...sounds great...had a little typing problem...last chorus now...very nice...good mix. Another good one Jerry. I like all of your stuff.

I think this is my favourite of yours lyrcal wise. Thats a brilliant storytelling you have done here and the performance treats it delicately. Great done
