Liner Notes:

Thinking about death today. Guess I'm getting old!

Not sure the verses make a ton of sense, but what the heck. I snuck in a bunch of literary allusions and that made it fun to write!

Let me know if you'd like to set it to music.

Cheers,
Doug

Lyrics:

I’m through with the self-pity scene
Gonna turn off the bell jar screen
Where everyone looks with longing
At the oven

I’ll burn my copy of Macbeth
His fearful looks (loo-ooks) smacked of death
But he didn’t know power
Is the strongest poison

C
Not gonna rage
Wanna go gentle
But, Lord, I hope
I have a few more years
Not gonna rage
Wanna go gentle
But, Lord, I hope
I have a few years more

It’s been a life of words in play
Now it seems so absurd to say
Most anything that is lacking
In true wisdom

I’m keeping quiet, lying low
Not even sure where I will go
The only thing I won’t do
Is play the victim

C
Not gonna rage
Wanna go gentle
But, Lord, I hope
I have a few more years
Not gonna rage
Wanna go gentle
But, Lord, I hope
I have a few years more

B
I dream I’ll greet ten thousand sunsets yet
Still feel it when clouds break light into splinters
Smile as springs roll into summers
And autumns paint the leaves
And shiver as the snow delivers winters

C
Not gonna rage
Wanna go gentle
But, Lord, I hope
I have a few more years
Not gonna rage
Wanna go gentle
But, Lord, I hope
I have a few years more

(Outro)
Lord, I hope
I have a few years more

There's a country sort of feel to this lyric. The literary allusions here (including the anti-Dylan-Thomas sentiment of the chorus) are really great. I enjoyed this one a lot!

Nice lyrics! Enjoyed the literary nods. hope I go gentle, too, but I do everything else kicking and screaming, so I doubt I will. Smile
