Liner Notes:

This one could have a sort of Americana feel to it but that's really your call.

Lyrics:

Nothing’s as lonely
Nothing’s as lonely
Nothing’s as lonely
As you in my rear-view mirror

I pack my old guitars
In my tiny rattletrap
I tie my battered suitcase
To the roof with a strap

I give you one last kiss
And feel your body one more time
The highway’s calling out to me
I say, “Bye, I’ll be fine”

But it’s a lie
It’s a lie

Nothing’s as lonely
Nothing’s as lonely
Nothing’s as lonely
As you in my rear-view mirror

Late nights in honky-tonks
Where my music can’t compete
With noisy conversations
And the tempting scent of meat

And even as I sing
I can see you in my mind
Standing in the driveway
As I’m leaving you behind

Then I cry
I cry

Nothing’s as lonely
Nothing’s as lonely
Nothing’s as lonely
As you in my rear-view mirror

So I dream of the day
I can put this life away
In order to stay
By your side
(2X)

(Instrumental)

Nothing’s as lonely
Nothing’s as lonely
Nothing’s as lonely
As you in my rear-view mirror
(Repeat)

What a great take on the downside of being a working musician, where living the dream means feeling deprived at the same time. I sure feel for the singer of this song and all that’s being missed out on. Love the repetitions in the chorus, the changing lift sections, and the visual details throughout.

Reminds me of other leaving songs for the musician and it flows so excellently!

That's one cool chorus. It tells so much with very few words. Also, the first verse is bodacious with "rattletrap" ( new word for me ) and "strap" again telling a lot. The rest is really nice but I gotta leave others something to say, too. Smile Sad and touching country lyrics and smartly written.
