Inspired in part, admittedly with a little borrowing of the first phrase 'there are worse things than", from Stephen Sondheim's opening (and title) number of the musical Sunday In The Park With George.

Sitting In A Building On A Tuesday
Guitar tuning Open D DADF#AD
Chords: D – oooooo; Gadd9 – oo555o; Dmaj7 – oo434o; D9 – oo212o;
Verse {pluck muted strings}
Hey do this
No don’t do that
Eyes forward at the screen
Speak when you’re told
don’t say what you mean

Chorus 1
There are worse things than sitting in a building on a Tuesday
There are worse things than being in air conditioning
When outside it is raining
So hot I hear complaining
On a Tuesday

Punch the clock
Don’t let the line stop
Need to know you see
Ignore our doublespeak

Chorus 2
There are worse things than sitting in a building on a Tuesday
There are worse things than being told what to say
Sitting in a comfy chair every day
Being told how to play
On a Tuesday

Body language synced
Don’t let them see you flinch
Not an inch
Just let them think
You’re comfortable on the brink
Write in disappearing ink

Chorus 3
There are worse things than sitting in a building on a Tuesday
There are worse things than listening to music
Surfing for the news fix
Sometimes calling in sick
On a Tuesday

Clean the glass again
Silence for the cameras
Ape the sense of urgency
Smile taking their currency
Just look busy

Chorus 4
There are worse things than sitting in a building on a Tuesday
There are worse things than holding back emotions
Feigning expected devotions
When waiting for tomorrows tokens
On a Tuesday
On a Tuesday

White noise drones
All the ringing phones
Next assignment
Ask you to resign

Chorus 5
There are worse things than sitting in a building on a Tuesday
There are worse things than getting a paycheck
For the bills you need to pay back
And the sustainability you lack
On a Tuesday

Chorus 6
There are worse things than sitting in a building on a Tuesday
There are worse things than a soul crushed
From voices hushed
That say you’re not worth very much
On a Tuesday

The title grabbed me, and know your work so... yep, der it’tis Tuesday.

Well done. I know I always comment performance art, but that’s what it all is anyway Smile but, I see a series of scenes, one for each song with “helpers” doing the song (kids).

So, derUgo! Good one!

The interplay of cynical and complacent and discontent elements makes for a dark disturbing thought provoking song that grows sadder with each chorus. Makes me appreciate my job! Great chord progression with the tuning to help deliver the angst.

plucking the muted strings communicates the feeling of a day going by too slowly, and its only tuesday. but you are right, things could be worse. still, life in a cubicle can be miserable.

I like the way others have described this, its helped me understand how I feel about it myself.
Like usta, the title made me click right away as I came to your page.
The melody of the chorus is actually catchy. I'm not used to hearing the methods used during the verses, but the writing and the setting that you created inside my head kept me listening and intrigued.
I listened again and I definitely got a 1984 vibe from the spoken bits and the way you played the guitar during those parts. And the relief or the "its not so bad" came with the chorus.
Definitely engaging.
