Liner Notes:

Co-written with my 22 year old son via text today. (Mostly his words, momma just formatted it and tweaked into verse form)

Lyrics:

I Hate The Way I Remember You
(c) 2019
Avery Holmes and Deanna Sweidel

Thinking back to the days
That we used to share
It’s hard to believe
That you used to care

It all started off
Innocent and sweet
But all I recall’s
The shit you did to me

One thing is for sure
My memory’s skewed
I really hate how
How I remember you

I tried to remember
That very first date
But all I remember
Are nights I would lay

In my bed alone
All those sleepless nights
My memories plagued
By our screaming fights

One thing is for sure
My memory’s skewed
I really hate how
How I remember you

I tried to think back
To that very first kiss
Every time that I try
I just see our fists

But in your defense
You were raised like shit
Babe I had your six
(in)’Stead of callin’ it quits

One thing is for sure
My memory’s skewed
I really hate how
How I remember you

I sit back and think
‘Bout all the years wasted
The good and bad times
‘Bout all the tears wasted

One thing is for sure
My memory’s skewed
I really hate how
How I remember you

One thing is for sure
My pain is still true
God damn I hate how
I remember you

Please keep your comments respectful, honest, and constructive. Please focus on the song and not the demo.

Wow. Heavy! Apparently the writing skills run in the family. "I hate how I remember you" is a real sentiment after a relationship breakdown.

Sad! Honest feeling! And cool that you and your son created this together!

I can empathise with this and I'm really really glad that I haven't been in this position! But wow, some of my nearest and dearest have...and there's nothing one can do to get them past it.
