Liner Notes:

Thanks to Deanna for letting me use her lyrics to create this song. Most of her original lines are in here though I have jumbled them around somewhat and also added some more to fill out the song’s arrangement so I hope she doesn’t mind too much.

PS - I doubled tracked the guitar using Nashville tuning. I only found out about this recently so I t’s the first time I’ve tried it.

Lyrics:

I should know better than to think
I should know better than to dream
I should know better than to need
Things are never what they seem
I should know better than to care
I should know better than to love
I should know better than to feel
Things are never good enough

I should know better
But I don’t
I should know better
But I won’t
I won’t be a quitter
I won’t give in to pressure
Even though I know
I know I should know better

I should know better than to laugh
I should know better than to cry
I should know better than ask
Or to ever question why

I should know better than to beg
I should know better than to pray
I should know better than to hope
Things never seem to go my way
I should know better than to have
I should know better than to hold
I should know better than to trust
And to believe what I am told

I should know better
But I don’t
I should know better
But I won’t
I won’t be a quitter
I won’t bow to pressure
Even though I know
I know I should know better

I should know better than to wait
I should know better than to doubt
I should know better than to worry
What life is all about

I can’t stop now
I can’t stop ever
I won’t stop now
Though I know better

That's a fun song. Put some drums to it, and it would sound a bit Beatlesy.

this is lively romp through deannas list of things we would be better off not indulging in. love the guitar sounds.

Music, melody, and chords have classic pop written all over them. Lyrics have a nice ( modern? ) introspection in them while they also have a certain bubble gum flavor. This is really a great pop song and very good collaboration. Kudos to you two both! Smile

Love this one. I like this style of music. We had a band here called the Lucksmiths who did this stuff! Excellent - on to the saved list!

This is really awesome all around! I love the instrumentation on this, especially the clapping and the harmonica, and the chords sound great, too. The "ooh"s at 2:26 stood out to me as well. Lyrics provide a great rhythm to the song that had me bobbing my head the whole way through. Fantastic job, both of you!

I always say with lyrics and the musician
you have to make them fit you
and man you really did that
this is a stunner, love the vocal
and the music just had me tapping

another masterpiece

Has a super fun Beatles feel to it to me. Wonderful singing. The lyric is simply great and the whole musical package takes it to a new level of awesomeness. Exactly what a collaboration should do!

So many things we should know and do! Love the insight in this and the message of self acceptance! Great lyrics! And this music is absolutely toe-tapping delightful and perfect for the lyrics! I love the claps and the wonderfully contagious melody! Great use of harmonies, harmonica, and tambourine! Wonderful strum. Perfect use of phrasing, break downs and instrumentals. This is a feel good very relatable pop hit! Love it and listening again!

Wow, that was awesome. The slightly whimsical musical feel with combined with the lyric gives it a less harsh delivery than it could otherwise but still allows the words to hit home. This is really good from both sides, both lyrically and musically. And that performance is top notch. I love those doubled vocals. And for the record, the claps and tambourine are perfect rhythmic accompaniments, imo.

What a great track. Lyrics are just *there* and the arrangement and melody are instantly likeable and hummable. Great work all around.

Cute poppy little ditty.

Catchy as can be, and you always throw in an unexpected chord change to give it your flavor.

Wonderful collab.
What is Nashville tuning?
