Liner Notes:

Welcome to 50-90! I've been a little death-obsessed lately. Mostly around the idea that hey, we only get one shot at this thing, how do I want to approach it? Right now, I think I've settled on tempered epicurianism, but not dogmatically.

Anyway, when I sat down to write something, the opening line is what popped into my head immediately, so I ran with it. Fans of mine will notice the copious cribbing of chord progressions and melodies from several of my other tunes, but if you can't rip yourself off, who CAN you rip off?

Instrumentation is just acoustic, vox, and single mic drums, played with brushes. The B string on my acoustic broke while it was sitting in it's case over the past few months, so I just ran with it... Looks kids, it's a 5-string! Nice little rough pop tune to start off the summer.

Lyrics:

CHORUS
One day soon we're all gonna die
Of cancer, or old age or getting hit by a car
So you can you choose how you ride
You can make the trip more fun
Push yourself until you come undone

VERSE
You can wait until everything is perfect
You can stew until you've got it right
Or you can jump in, hope that you can swim
Glory or failure, cruise into the night

PRECHORUS
Everything we do just prolongs the inevitable
Embrace your own downfall and be incredible

CHORUS
One day soon we're all gonna die
Of Gangrene, or influenza or getting hit by a train
So you can you choose how you ride
You can make the trip more fun
Push yourself until you come undone

VERSE
You can live on nuts and berries
Or you can down a gallon of wine
I know the path that I've chosen up til now
And I may not live to 90, but I'll be fine

PRECHORUS
Laugh at the people watching from the bench
Dying well is the second best revenge

CHORUS
One day soon we're all gonna die
Of jogging, or childbirth or getting mauled by a dog
So you can you choose how you ride
You can make the trip more fun
Push yourself until you come undone

BRIDGE
Own your choices
They're all you've got
Ignore the voices
The afterthoughts

PRECHORUS
Keep searching until you find your spark
Your body's not a temple it's an amusement park

CHORUS
One day soon we're all gonna die
Of skydiving, or heart disease or HPV
So you can you choose how you ride
You can make the trip more fun
Push yourself until you come undone
One day soon we're all gonna die

Very true! I loved the upbeat feel you gave the song and how you changed the second line of the chorus each time it came around.

Fun song, that first line is definitely a great starting point, and I like the list of hazards. So many. As far as cribbing chord progressions, how many open chords on an acoustic guitar are there? Oh, right, not that many. Three chords and the truth is never stealing.

I like the drums dropping in halfway through like your neighbor wandered in and sat down at the kit. I also like how the bridge drops back in intensity. And the exhortation to vaccinate!

"Your body is an amusement park" sounds like our next "Makin' It"; maybe we should schedule that collab ....

I love the mix of depth and humor here. Nice dynamics, too.

The second-best revenge line is killin'.

Had me giggling as I was folding my laundry, with all the ways of dying. Funnest song about death I’ve heard for a while. Music-wise I liked the changes in texture through the song.

So true, and perfectly delivered as an optimistic, gently encouraging pop ditty. Nicely said (with such witty lyrics!), nicely played (with upbeat guitar, and the drums have real impact at their gradual, delayed entrance)... just a nice job all around! Also: yes to your message at the end!
