Liner Notes:

I was almost overcome by the heat here at the festival but I parked my chair concealed in the branches of a giant beech right on the shore. Some of my favorite songwriters are on the same stage now.

I like the story I sketched here. I want to expand on it when I get home to my instruments.

July 12: Musicated.

July 12-- revisions and chords

Sean McGaughey ss050719L (c) July 6, 2019 99th Second Chance

V1
D
Even as a boy he always pushed the limits
G
Never thought of No as an answer,
D
Colouring books were merely guides,
D
There's no line he wouldn't cross
A
He didn't think, he lived outside any box

Chorus
G D
He's on his ninety-ninth second chance
A D D7
His every word of sorrow's met with a disbelieving glance.
G D
No one will accept when he declares my word's my bond.
A D
After ninety-nine second chances, that chance is long gone.

V2
D
He'd always rather ask forgiveness than permission
G
Ever leaping without the slightest look
D
Wondering who'd conspire to put him in the next fine mess
A A7
Blind to the liberties he took.

Chorus

Bridge
E A7
He styled himself an outlaw, not beholden to anyone,
E A7
But he's left alone and lonely for the deeds he left undone.

Chorus

V1
Even as a boy he always pushed the limits
Never thought No was an answer,
Colored way outside the lines
There was no line he wouldn't cross
to keep outside any box

Chorus
He's on his ninety-nineth second chance
His every word of sorrow's met with a disbelieving glance.
Nobody will accept when he says his word's his bond.
After ninety-nine second chances, that chance is long gone.

V2
He'd always rather ask forgiveness than permission
Ever leaping without the slightest look
Wondering who conspired to put him in the next fine mess
Blind to the liberties he took.

Chorus

Bridge
He styled himself an outlaw, not beholden to anyone,
But he's left alone and lonely for the deeds he left undone.

Chorus

Oooh this rings familiar and I'm looking forward to how it develops and gets put to music!

This has a lot of potential. 99th second chance is a great hook. Go for it.

I like the concept, think I know this guy. Stay hydrated in that heat, and let us know when you post a demo.

Yes, I think we all know folks like that... and it's sad when it comes to bite them in the end. Well-told. Hope Mariposa's being awesome!

"He'd always rather ask forgiveness than permission". This is what the whole song revolves around. Lesson not learned.

Great lyrics! "Wondering who conspired to put him in the next fine mess" is such a great line, I always try to remind myself to take responsibility for my failures — it's an easy trap to blame others.

Great lyrics here.
So much complexity in these words; the guy keeps messing up and yet he can't learn from his mistakes cos everyone keeps giving him second chances...
Nicely done!
