Skirmish prompt: shelves

This was a 10pm skirmish last night - which I did but feel asleep with my iPhone before I posted it.

Lyrics:

Heart on the Shelf

V1
my shelves are lined
with things I don’t use
gathering more dust
like old dancing shoes

shelves have trinkets
I meant to repair
parts are now missing
and I don’t care

C
I put my heart
on the shelf
when you walked away

I put my heart
on the shelf
I don’t need it these days

V2
my shelves are full
of books I haven’t read
as unfolding events
have filled up my head

on the shelves are
old pictures of you
sugar coating stories
of what we went through

C
I put my heart
on the shelf
when you walked away

I put my heart
on the shelf
I don’t need it these days

B
someday I might clean up this room
sort through the knick-knacks
throw old treasures out
but right now I’m not ready to pack
my heart waits for you to come back...

C
I put my heart
on the shelf
when you walked away

I put my heart
on the shelf
I don’t need it these days

Awww, funny how we accumulate things and then...well, we realize what was right when we rid ourselves of what we don't need. What once was important...just no longer is...but the things that were important... we see all the more so. Super superb skirmish!! Well done!

That's a really nice use of the 'on the shelf' metaphor. Well done!

Great image you put together there. heartfelt and one can feel the deep emotions.

I like the way this story goes, the accumulated stuff that reminds you of life together. If we purge, we might be removing a bit of ourselves, not just the other. To me the saddest part of the story is our protagonist might be waiting for this person to return.

And we don’t know what happened, which of course would take 6 other songs to explain.

A clear concept, executed well. The image of the unused objects are heartbreaking.
