This is my take on "Butterfly Tears" by DeannaSweidel.

When I first read her beautiful lyric I was immediately assaulted by a melody for the verse so I started to put an arrangement down only to find out from Deanna that another version was being written.

Thankfully she didn't mind me doing my version so... Here it is.

Personally I'm very happy with how it turned out although I had to do a few takes of the vocals because I was getting all emotional due to the powerful lyrics. You might hear the voice quivering a little bit in the last verse and chorus Smile

Lyrics:

Butterfly Tears
© 6/7/2019 (D. Sweidel/C. Stewart)

V1
I wrapped myself inside these wings
To hide
Just hide
Secluded from the pain life brings
I tried
I tried

PC
No beautiful transformation
Comes out of self damnation
Just heartache and frustration
And I cry, I cry these

Ch
Butterfly tears
Fly away
Take all of my fears
Fly away
And the pain of these years
Oh won't you
Fly away
Fly away with my
Butterfly tears

V2
I wrapped myself inside these wings
And cried
Just cried
Secluded from the pain life brings
No pride
No pride

PC
No beautiful transformation
Comes out of self damnation
Just heartache and frustration
And I cry, I cry these

Ch
Butterfly tears
Fly away
Take all of my fears
Fly away
And the pain of these years
Oh won't you
Fly away
Fly away with my
Butterfly tears

V3
I opened up my damaged wings
I flied
Just flied
I left behind the pain life brings
In stride
In stride

PC
My beautiful transformation
Came out of self damnation
From heartache and frustration
When I shed, I shed these

Ch
Butterfly tears
Fly away
Take all of my fears
Fly away
And the pain of these years
Oh won't you
Fly away
Fly away with my
Butterfly tears

Great emotional piano. Heartbreaking lyric. Awesome collab, guys. I'm crying now too. Sad Great instrumental richness added at 1:46. Wow!

Oh my, this is just perfect. I really loved the way all the instruments come in. I might be a little biased being a bass player, but the bass on this is awesome.
Fantastic lyrics and performance.

Was already a beautiful track with excellent vocals and melodies, great piano...then you came in with everything else at 1:47.
I know from last year that Deanna is a great writer and you really took her lyrics and gave them an awesome soulful life.
This some good stuff!
The changes have such a classic sound that I totally dig in ballads. Nice voice, as well.
Excellent collab.

What a good song and performance plus beautiful lyrics you two were meant to be. We want more.

so glad this lovely lyrics fell into your hands, you really get inside them and brimg out their sad essence, making of it a gorgeous song of self examination and the shortcomings we are all faced with when we are honest with ourselves.

I'm curious now to hear the other person's interpretation of these poignant and powerful words.
The soulful piano/vocal treatment is just right for the directness and personal-ness of the words. Then the extra instrumentation takes it in a wonderfully cinematic, lush direction.
Such a well-done collab!

I love your arrangement. Right when I thought you were gonna leave it piano and voice as a solid vehicle to deliver this gorgeous lyric you went and kicked it up into gear. Sounding good.

That lyric is very well written and says it just right. And this music works beautifully with it.
