Lyrics:

Up Close
(c) 2019 Deanna Sweidel

That pretty little picture
That you paint for all to see
Is just a full on Monet

From far away so lovely
Just a perfect family
In the world on full display

Up close life’s such a mess
Keep the world a few steps back
Then they’ll see just what you show
Up close life’s such a mess
Never let anyone near
So the truth they’ll never know

That pretty little picture
That you paint for all to see
Is just a full on Monet

Up close things are a mess
And unhappiness the theme
HIdden from the world each day

Up close life’s such a mess
Keep the world a few steps back
Then they’ll see just what you show
Up close life’s such a mess
Never let anyone near
So the truth they’ll never know

Make them keep their distance
Make them stay away
From that family portrait
Hung in truth’s hallway

Up close life’s such a mess
Keep the world a few steps back
Then they’ll see just what you show
Up close life’s such a mess
Never let anyone near
So the truth they’ll never know

That pretty little picture
That you paint for all to see
Is just a full on Monet

From far away so lovely
Just a perfect family
In the world on full display

always like the use of Monet or any of the impressionists. Clever idea of life in impression. Nice one

I like how the lyric identifies the changes in perception based on distance. True in art and in relationships. Thanks for joining in the skirmish!

The song became much clearer after I watched the video. I really like the imagery that you used although I didn't get the connection of Monet to being a mess until I watched the video. I have seen plenty of Monet's work up close and it is amazing! Haha! I love the use of perspective in this lyric though.

It's not every day you get Monet as an end rhyme! Very cool concept and impressionism is the perfect metaphor.

Wow, it's really good what you did with the Monet remark. A painful and strong write!
