NOT SAFE FOR WORK

Liner Notes:

My wrist and throat are sore, but I think that works just fine for this one. Probably picked the sore throat up at one of the damn airports I've been in in the last two weeks. Bastards. At any rate, first song done. Woo hoo!

Lyrics:

Good Lord, did I need a break
So I decided to take
A little trip across the land
I needed something new
To meet some people too
Hell, maybe we would start a band

So I flew into the sun
Had a lot of fun
But eventually had to head on back
When the day arrived
I got up bleary eyed
And cursed the sky for being black

The first thing I did
Into the wrong line I slid
But I was still good on my time
After I conquered that
In the plane I sat
While it debated whether or not to climb

It would be a little tight
The next airport would be a fight
But I was prepared to kick a little ass
When I arrived, I swore
We pulled into gate B94
Fuck

I had the cross country, smelly airport, no sleep travelling blues
I had the cross country, smelly airport, no sleep travelling blues

So I pushed on through
Shoved old ladies and babies too
Trying to figure out which way to go
I tried not to frown
When I went up instead of down
But I finally made it, don’t ya know

Now I could unwind
Close my eyes, rest my spine
And have a cold drink or two
But that was a mistake
My bladder started to ache
And there was a long-ass bathroom queue

We landed eventually
Damn, did I have to pee
But I sat on the tarmac for quite awhile
So I pushed on through
Shoved old ladies and babies too
I was a little more than hostile

I finally got relief
Expelled all my grief
Then I got myself some lunch
One last flight ‘til home
I was done with my roam
Fuck

I had the cross country, smelly airport, no sleep travelling blues
I had the cross country, smelly airport, no sleep travelling blues

I had the cross country, smelly airport, no sleep travelling blues
I had the cross country, smelly airport, no sleep travelling blues

sounds pretty good to me. Darned airplanes and airports they can make you feel like - well anything

You had me at "Long-ass bathroom line"! Serious and funny at the same time ... reminded me a bit of "Road Ode" by Loudon Wainwright III. I like the simple guitar/vocal approach. Nice!

Now I understand why your arms were so tired—pushing and shoving old ladies and babies is hard work!

This is a funny rundown of your saga, and I really love the guitar drop outs on the ending lines.

Terrific story, with a lot of very evocative lines (including the last line of pretty much every verse). I was entertained - and chuckling - all the way through. You may not be feeling at your peak, but this song is top-notch indeed. Nice start to your 50/90!

Oh I’m gonna be singing this when i go on my 24hour flight to Australia. Can totally relate! Vocals and guitar sounded fantastic.

3 chords, eh? Y’know, I’ve been fortunate not to have had too many airport experiences such as this, but when I did - 3 chords would have come in mighty handy! Diggin’ this to the max!

I like your confident strumming and vox here.
Three chords is really all you need, right?
Funny but serious lyrics, too; well done.
I bet this would be good in a live setting.
Nicely done!

Well this one seems like three chords and the truth. Shoved old ladies and babies. Again, the truth. About airports. Oh the times we live in.

Great travelogue! Glad you made it through. The B94 and reaction made me laugh as did the need to pee. The spoken word was perfectly added in. Nice use of dynamics too! Very realistic picture of airport life! Good to hear you again.

Oh, I feel your pain. The only good thing about air travel for me these days is they way it makes me appreciate staying at home. Full marks for channelling what was clearly a traumatic experience into something funny and upbeat. And the guitar accompaniment on this one is great!

I loved the tag "3 chords is all it takes" LOL it made me super interested and curious! I really liked the pacing of the lyrics and the delivery! Well written and you were right, those words were strategically placed and work extremely well! The way you delivered the title of the song was divine and it makes me want to push play AGAIN! Shoved old ladies and babies too? You're DIABOLICAL! YOU MONSTER!! LOL Wink
