Liner Notes:

I figured I would get a start at the challenge, though feeling a bit uninspired. No excuse. Write what I know.

The first song of an album (hopefully) of self-reflective songs played on my acoustic guitar. A song about aging and questioning one's own answers to life's chaos. I play a bit with homophones and homonyms in the lyrics.

Lyrics:

Dark 'fore dawn, awake from sleepish stealing
with no alarm, just an anxious feeling
mourning light, furtive, fleeting flicker
coming night, talk, talk, tick ticker

Start my day, days keep going faster
break my fast, recipe for disaster
shutting in, wondering what comes after?
maybe tears mixed up with laughter

I've been told, but I don't know
if it's lies or if it's so
untangling reason from the rhyme
of whether I can see or if I'm blind

Trapped inside, head case humiliation
wasting time, failing at all relations
know what's right, still just feel complacent
pushing rope a waning preoccupation

Days go by, just keep going noward
false starts, shaky and stumbling backward
shadows grow, sunset, light is fading
to dusky sight or vision failing?

I've been told, but I don't know
if it's lies or if it's so
untangling reason from the rhyme
of whether I can see or if I'm blind

If I'm blind and just hallucinating sight
If I'm blind...

Dark 'fore dawn, awake from sleepish stealing
with no alarm, just an anxious feeling
mourning light, furtive, fleeting flicker
coming night, talk, talk, tick ticker

I've been told, but I don't know
if it's lies or if it's so
untangling reason from the rhyme
of whether I can see or if I'm blind

This feels familiar - when I get anxious about things, I have moments where everything slows down to a different kind of anxiety for a few seconds, and the chorus feels just like that. Your voice sounds great on this!

love this rhythm. it kicks off and doesnt let up,, and internal variants keep it iteresting, timely lyrics and fiery deiivery. your voice threatens to beak through the atmospere at any time in a kind of roy orbison surge but you keep it down to earth.

I really enjoyed this. The percussion has kind of this great punk energy to it, which is an interesting combination with the deep almost country- like vocal delivery. Yeah liked it very much. Thanks for sharing

I came here from @johncrossman 's morph. I really appreciate the shared lyrical DNA in the 2 songs. I love the multiple paired juxtaposed opposites here. The slight rockabilly setting works very well indeed here.

Mr. Toast! I listened to this a lot and let it get into my head while considering a morph. It was a great and dark place to start. There are some messed up metaphors in here, which I greatly enjoy in a lyric, and the driving guitar and drums were engagingly relentless. You will absolutely hear how much I plagiarized to morph, thankfully with your permission. Some of my favorite things are phrases that don't mean something by themselves, yet clearly convey the meaning intended, like "sleepish stealing" or "head case humiliation." Tasty with an underlying bitterness like good dark chocolate. Thanks Tom!

Totally awesome! Love the beat. Awesome insight and introspection in the lyrics! This is such a great seed song! I was the 4th song in the morph and it’s amaxing how many of your great lines carried through! Love this one! Awesome vocals with great exclamation of emotion at the end!

.Just a few of the many lines that hit me in the solar plexus. Paired with your power packed vocals. One must stop and listen. I'm honored to have been in such good musical company.
