To Find You

Liner Notes:

I wrote a lyric a couple of days ago (on the 1st of July) and it kind of drew me in. I've developed it and added music. See the bottom of the lyric sheet for the original to compare if you're interested. Also, this is just right on the edge of my range (and I'm out of practice) but gives it a tense feeling that suits the lyric, I think.

Lyrics:

I look to find you but you are not here
Upstairs and downstairs, still you don't appear
I look out the window to see if you're around
There you are on the lawn, sitting on the ground

I look up right through the sky
Into the distant past
Searching for the kind of love
That stands a chance to last

The stars seem so far away
As far as you are now
I don't have the words to say
And I don't seem to know how
To find you
To find you

I sit down on the porch a couple feet away
Silence spreads throughout the night into the break of day
Minutes stretch to hours, not sharing a single word
Until I say I love you but you don't seem to have heard

I look up right through the sky
Into the distant past
Searching for the kind of love
That stands a chance to last

The stars seem so far away
As far as you are now
I don't have the words to say
And I don't seem to know how
To find you
To find you
To find you

The night seems so beautiful
Clouds slipping from the sky
As these stars shine down on us
I feel lost but don't know why

I look up right through the sky
Into the distant past
Searching for the kind of love
That stands a chance to last

The stars seem so far away
As far as you are now
I don't have the words to say
And I don't seem to know how
To find you
To find you
To find you
To find you

Original Lyric:
I look to find you but you're not here
Upstairs and downstairs, you're not around
I stop and look outside my window
You're out on the front lawn, sitting on the ground

The stars seem so far away
But not as far as you are now
I don't know the words to say
And I don't seem to know how...
to find you

I sit down on the porch a couple feet away
But we don't share a single word
I remember telling you I love you
But you don't seem to have heard

The stars seem so far away
But not as far as you are now
I don't know the words to say
And I don't seem to know how...
to find you

the night seems so beautiful
With no cloud in the sky
As these stars shine down on us
I feel lost but don't know why

The stars seem so far away
But not as far as you are now
I don't know the words to say
And I don't seem to know how...
to find you

This is really beautiful and poignant. Such vulnerability and intimacy. The emotion feels so heartfelt in the words and the melody. I love the chord progression you used. Awesome song!

Heartfelt, honest lyric and performance; delicate emotions. Nice one!!

I think I've seen this film. It's shot beautifully, not much dialogue to clutter up the clear yearning of the main characters. Lovely scenery and everything aches for connection. Will conveyed, Mr. Elliott.

Looking up through the sky into the past was a haunting image for me. Lost in daydream. Lovely song of lost love. I enjoyed the guitar and agree the stress in the vocal added to the emotion.

Touching lyric, with some strong descriptions - slipping clouds, the silence between them.

I like this line - while sitting together on the porch:

The stars seem so far away
As far as you are now

singing inn that range gives your voice a true sense of longing which enhances the sentiments of the song

Never heard you sing THIS high and I liked it. Totally works for the lyrics which are great. Also, I liked the chords during 'to find you' (x3). This song is in my head now, it's really good.
